What is going to happen with all the MSST K9 billets? Will they lateral over to ME? How do I get into a K9 billet?

The K9 handlers will have the option to lateral over to ME. Eventually, the program plans to have all K9 handlers be of the ME rating. Right now, the only way to get into the K9 program is to be at the right MSST at the right time. There are only 16 positions, all of which are currently filled. In essence, you have to be stationed at one of the MSST's that have K9's and be there when one decides to let go of the leash. Then, you have to also hold the position of a Boarding Officer Ashore (which is to be a graduate of the MLEA for atleast a year). Then your command will obviously choose who out of all the people from the unit who "apply" for it, would be the "best" fit.

I am a K9 handler.

Not so fast, you can attend PWCS, and become BOCA.

Isn't one of the requirements to attend PWCS school being a graduate of the MLEA ?

Yes, I'm not sure if it is or not. When I attended BO school, the PWCS section was still a built in part of the school. Now, they are seperate and I've been told the PWCS course is much more detailed now. Either way, in reference to CGBM2, I'm assuming he's refering to being in-house qualified BO prior to attending PWCS. Either way, six of one, half dozen of the other. Either than CGBM2's little catch, the information I gave is accurate.
