I like it. If the Guard did that it would make my life.

exactly why this program is taking so long... there are too many people like ex_cg_gm still working in high levels of decision making in the cg. people with attitudes like that are the reason there isn't a rate, job field, or support from within the cg.

too bad, because change is good! this very lack of change is the reason i got out.

p.s. how long is it going to be before the first msst "hater" gets on here and bashes this?

I don't hate MSST's, I'm just pro PSU. Razz

One team, one fight and We'll see how things go with "the DOG". Should be interesting for all of us.

I don't see how thinking Special Forces training is overkill to the Coast Guard translates in your mind into not supporting MSST's in general.

hmmm...look up Coastal Forces sometimes...the CG's BTDT...

I gotta ask the obvious question - just how exactly do you see a CG retiree (who doesn't work for the CG) making policy decisions for today's CG?

Awww Jesus!...I think the closest thing we will have to this is the DOG!....I dont know how this will work out...The "Green Side" has their way of doing things and the "Blue Side" has their way...if the too will mix time will only tell. I can see some real issues....The MSST's will want to have nothing to do with learning combat infantry moves and I can see certain members of the green side resisting boardings and LE OPS...It will sure be interesting!

You know it was all these retirees that came up all those special ops units in the first place, and now they think we dont need them. It was in the late 70's and early 80's we had the DIAT teams, then it changed to IMLET(T) then to nothing as all those who created them retired. Sounds more like OER material more than anything to me. Now we are going to this new DOG unit, which the working group for that one is a bunch of senior enlisted and officers, and no doubt in ten years will be changed again for, once again an OER. When you can no longer control what youve created, and have to let someone else start taking credit for a good thing, its time to smash it down. I'm surprised someone hasnt figured out how to get rid of the TACLET and rename it something else. Deal with it, the CG will always have some sort of special ops unit as long as the CG has law enforcement authority.

The CG had law enforcement authority LONG before anything resembling "Special Ops" was in existence.

By the late 70's I was retired, so there were no such units when I was in that I am aware of.

There has been some sort of special ops group, unit or team since Korea. I knew an old GM from WWII, he had some stories. Be advised, just because you wernt aware of any teams, doesnt mean they didnt exsist. Who but a very few, knew about the deployable narcotics team out of Detroit in the 90's. They went through some very interesting training, ie.. undercover narc ops, vehicle tactics, and much more. The team consisted of a GM1, GM2, QM2, BM2, and an SK3. They routinely used resources like, Air Force drug dogs, and Boarder Patrol resources. Also worked with the Secret Service on the first lady detachment.
I'm sure you have some good stories, but there is alot more out there that doesnt make the CG magazine.
