Im part of the rescue and Survival Program and I am just curious what every body else is carrying for knives at all the other MSST's. I know the R&S Manual has references for knives but Id like to give theses guys something a little more tactical then a myerchin with a marlinspike that they never use. And did you have to get approval through anyone to purchase them. If you have any ideas it would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Here's the link to a discussion on here awhile back. Seems to have quite a bit of info on various knives and what you can/cannot get.

On second thought, ours were benchmade. It's been a while since I've seen it

Just paint it black and put velcro on it, then you can call it "tactical".

Alot of our MLE guy's purchased folding Karambit's from Steve Tarani when he came to give knife defense classes. They seem to be pretty durable.

Look at the Benchmade AFO model BM-9050SBT. It's already mil-spec approved, our AST's get issued them I believe, the NSN is NSN-1095-01-446-4348 Knife, Automatic, Switchblade.

The automatic opening is easy for one-handed use, use with gloves, opening underwater, plus the black coating helps minimize corrosion in a saltwater environment. I would guess price would be the only drawback.

The best knife is the Rex-applegate field and combat ranger. 84.99 GSA. All MSST need this for their safey and to kill in battle.

I'm thinking with 45 rounds of ammo, if you have to use your knife running away might be a wise option.

Ex CG Gm,

I was being a smartA$$. In my opinion any knife with a blade is good for me. I didn't know that MSST's needed spec war knives. I'm just a mk, I'll use a sharp rock if I have to!
