USCG_OGDEN_BM, here is some stuff from MSST 91103's web page:

Vision Statement:
The United States Coast Guard Maritime Safety and Security Teams will be recognized as the world's premier Maritime Anti-Terrorism/Force Protection units by providing the most professional services available to our customers while living the Commandant's vision.

Mission Statement:
To enhance the presence and response capabilities of the world's premier Maritime Law Enforcement agency, ensuring a heightened vigilance throughout the National Maritime Transportation System. Employing dedicated teams to interdict and neutralize potential threats with a force possessing unique skills, capabilities, and expertise to perform a broad range of port security and harbor defense missions, both domestic and abroad.
Goals:
To detect and intercept criminal or catastrophic events well before they threaten our shores by providing an integrated force that will guarantee our internal and external security. This unparalleled law enforcement presence will protect vital national interests and infrastructure.

The MSST's primary mission is AT/FP, cutters like what Don was talking about and the stations he has been at do a lot of drug interdiction where as the MSST's are responsible for securing ports, waterways and other critical infracture (ferrys, refineries, ships, etc). Take a buoy tender, their primary mission is ATON, but when 9/11 hit they moved in and started doing more LE, not their primary mission but one of the Coast Guard Missions.

What ever unit you go to, you will enjoy your enlistment and have a good time, BM's rule (but don't ask the other rates, some MK might kick your a$$). Welcome Aboard and have "fun" at bootcamp.

There is no doubt that my years as a Cox'n and Boarding officer/team member with the Coast Guard had everything to do with my getting hired as a Marine Enforcement Officer for Customs. To be honest, it was about being a Coxn and BO, not BM. I know that a few MEO's were prior USCG MK's and I think one was either a QM1 or an RM1.

I would think many agencies would be interested in the GM's as long as they had boarding officer/team experience.

The MSST would probably give you an even higher level of experience. My brother is a BM2/Cox'n for a MSST in GA.

It's good that you are researching now to help you make you decide on a rate.
