I know there is a rule against crossdressing.

What does that encompass for a female? Is it wearing uniforms of the opposite sex, or would I get in trouble for wearing boxers and men's jeans (off duty.)

I am accustomed to men's clothing seeing as I grew up practically on a farm and then working for my dad's construction company in the field.

I don't want to give up my 501 button fly jeans!

I think it's more about protraying yourself as someone of the opposite sex vs wearing pants cut for men.

As for uniforms, you are issued a set of womens uniforms and are expected to wear those.

I admit I wear men's jeans. 501's rock! Women's jeans are too tight/small in the waist. I wear a lot of men's clothes, come to think of it. Women's clothes just dont fit me right.
The shirts never come down long enough, and the pants always have a low crotch and short legs.

I don't think the quest for comfort classifies you as a crossdresser. When I think of crossdressing, I think of "To Wong Foo, Thanks For Everything." lol

Part of the reason for my question is that I actually am a crossdresser. I have transgendered tendencies, although I don't want a sex change. I just don't think that biology should determine how I look or act. I have friends who call me he and friends who call me she and both work equally fine. Mostly, I am trying to figure out if I could live under the restrictions of military life.

Ok. What you do and wear off duty is your own darn business as long as you're not running around nude. lol If the goth chicks can come into the chow hall looking like Morticia Adams, with their faces painted white, black nail polish, hair and ripped up clothes, I don't see why you can't wear what you want. Iv'e seen some crazy stuff in my time, trust me. I doubt you wearing 501s and a flannel shirt (for instance) will get you in any kind of trouble.

I've seen plenty of females like you have described in the military. The only regulation I know of is you can't buzz cut, or shave your hair in the AF though. Not sure about my sister services.

As an NCO, I don't give a hoot what somebody does in their spare time or what they're into or stand for, if their transgendered, trigendered, or no gendered! As long as they don't do anything illegal and work hard everyday, I am just happy to get a good Airman in my shop.
There are a lot of supervisors who think the same way, so don't let that discourage you.
Good luck, whatever you decide to do.

It's been my experience that the men are the only ones that must dress their gender. Women seem to be allowed to dress anyway they want and no one says anything but guys have something on that doesn't look right and people are all over you. When I was in Osan Korea there was a whole group of girls that ran around with sports jerseys and baggy shorts lookin like gangstas and datin other girls but no one cares about girls lookin like dudes & datin other girls...

Well, halleluah, Praise the Lord and pass the ammunition!! Beer Okay the beer. Thank you, TheMadOne, for stating what I have had a contention about for years.

1. WHY does women's clothing have to fit so irregular? I can't buy women's shirts unless they are two sizes up just to get the sleeves long enough. Irritating as all get out. Mad

2. I was buying Class B pants (the green ones for you Air Forcers and trousers for you Mariners) over the internet. I had no idea what a French Fly was or why an insect had anything to do with clothing. I finally got a hold of AAFES and wouldn't you know, the top person for women's clothing was a male. Tell me the logic to that one. To his credit he told me that he thought that only a female should be in THAT position. Ya think?!

3. Where is it written in society that women have to wear dresses? I understand that many women love to...but why do we HAVE to? Confused For me - they are the most impractical piece of clothing.

Ok...I'm done ranting and raving. Whew! That felt good! Cool
