Army-
I would really like to hear the answers to this question as well. I don't have a ship date yet but have been told it will be about 3-4 weeks from when I go to sign my contract and pick my MOS next week (so about a month from now). From a woman's view - what is it like? |

Same here. I am a female prospect and would like to know what to expect from a female perspective. Anywhere from what toilettries are allowed and what you recommend, to any issues that you faced either negative or positive.
Thanks |

I think this is a good topic for a thread, it's too bad no one is answering-there are, apparently, a lot of people listening...

Motivation comes in all sizes. |
1. Favorite part = tie between graduation and when we would have downtime, our DSs would take the time to talk to us about their experiences in the Army. Oh yeah, the pancakes at breakfast (I went to Ft Jackson). They were absolutely fantastic.
2. Least favorite part = lots and lots of waiting; time spent in the classroom; gas chamber 3. Hardest thing to overcome = nothing really. I just made my mind up before I got there that I was going to get through everything ... and I did. Don't go in with the mindset that something is going to be hard to overcome. You're handicapping yourself from the start. Take it one event at a time. As I said before, BCT is not hard. Keep your eyes and ears open, and your mouth closed. Pay attention, do what you're told, push yourself at PT, study your SMART book (I'm not sure they even call it that anymore), work with your battle buddies and not against. Stay motivated. Good luck to everyone. ------------------------------------------------ "I don't mind falling down and scraping up my knees. 1. Favorite part: Too many to list, but towards the top is BRM (Basic Rifle Marksmanship). If you've never handled a weapon, don't worry, you'll get lots of practice. Pay attention to SPORTS...and watch out for Fast Freddy if you go to Jackson!
2. Least favorite part: I have to agree with ugajeepgirl...there is a lot of waiting. The classes were held in stuffy rooms that were way too warm. Stay awake! 3. Hardest thing to overcome: As a female, some guys automatically think you can't do some things. The drill sergeants I encountered were the exception. They won't ask you to do anything they can't do themselves...Ditch the stereotype. If you don't like being yelled at, or can't handle being criticized, work on your poker face. As ugajeepgirl said, BCT is really not hard. It IS challenging...and if you're in shape and have the right mind set, it is really fun. I got to do things that most people will never ever get to do. It's hot, it's humid, I saw my first cockroach ever at BCT (ewwww)...push yourself: you'll have some great stories to tell afterwards! |
