There Ain't No Such Thing As A Free Lunch |
I haven't heard anything lately about the OPC. Last I read they were looking at some "proven designs". Anyone have any updated info? Be kinda nice to see something get started there...

Here is my suggestion that meets all the parameters with exception of notched stern deloyed Long Range Prosecutor (which is not a stretch to add) pardon the pun! Proven platform from a designer we have used for 87 and FRC.

The OPC project is moving along. The PORD and CONOPS were signed this spring, in other words we have decided what capabilities we need and what the mission is.
We have reached out to industry to see what is available in the current market place (World wide), and that data is being analyzed. The decision on what it will look like, or if it will be an off the shelf (parent craft) design, has not been made yet, but when it is made, the info will be published as soon as possible. Input is always welcome
Keep in mind we are buying a vessel for today’s and tomorrows mission, which is not exactly the same as what we did in the past. |

What? You think I might suggest a ship dripping with guns, missiles, torpedos, etc.? |

As long as you don't send me drawings laying out depth charge racks, I'm fine with the rest Be Safe. |

No problem. Always hated them. Heavier than heck! Plus an insane GMC on my first ship once had me chip, scrape, paint and re-stencil every one we had. Nothing like sitting on a few hundred pounds of cast TNT beating on it with a chipping hammer.

WARNING THREAD DRiFT WARNING THREAD DRIFT>
Stan, The picture of you chipping and scrapping rust from a depth charge, reminds me of a incident that occurred as Cape May,before I got there as an instructor. A fishing boat had dredged up in their net a old naval shell and dropped it off on an old dock behind the Admin Building at the TRACEN. The shell laid there for months, before the CO, ordered it removed. Long story short. It was examined by the GM's and determined to be a BL and P projectile with no explosive charge. After laying around for some more months, three young lads, decided that it would make a great money maker, for the scrape metal. They loaded into a pickup, took it to several scrape metal dealers, with no success, the dealers commenting (Not in one piece.) So the next step, was to cut it up. Off to the wielding shop, next to the Boiler Plant. All three were in the Shop, when the shell exploded. The resulting explosion moved the shop, off it's foundation, (Old concrete Building), but contained the explosion to within, the shop, or it would have destroyed the Boiler Plant. Sadly all three Coasties died. Two instantly, the third several days later. The TraCen Command ruled that there was no misconduct, so the three families could receive benefits. The scars were still there when I arrived about a year later. Moral: There is no such thing as a safe explosive! Jack This message has been edited. Last edited by: cgrdcs, |

Guess those GM's were a bit short on expertise......the difference isn't that hard to see if you have handled both. I suspect it was rusty and the paint was gome so someone made an assumption it must have been BL & P since that is what is typically used for training shoots. |
