Yep, 60 minutes tends to play re-runs especially the news events that are compelling. I guess they can update the news piece about the Coast Guard demanding money back from ICGS. Also I guess they can discuss the risk of the National Security Cutter's C4ISR electronics having the same problem as the 123 WPB.

We can never forget how the ball got rolling on this. It was only last year when this all came to light.

Perhaps, on 30 August we should have a 1 year anniversary celebration of all of this that was partially initiated by Mike Dekort. Perhaps in a few years, we'll hear what the Department of Justice will do about the Deepwater investigation. My bet is that they'll make an annoucement a few months after the inauguration of the next President.

Time will tell. In the meantime, I'd urge you to sit back and watch the investigatory excellence as the DOJ does what they do best. Popcorn

There is nothing to watch. DOJ won't release any info until they either state they have decide to prosecute or not. Who knows when they'll be releasing that info. In the mean time, it will be interesting to see how Congress and its GAO along with the DHS Inspector General try to get any dirt on the National Security Cutter tests and trials. But one would guess that there will be strict control of information (enforced by the Coast Guard leadership) in regards to the National Security Trials.

Well DCCS, the Deepwater decision makers that could be held responsible are no longer in the Coast Guard. Admiral Allen was asked by Congressman Cummings if he would hold anybody acountable. Admiral Allen said that the people who are responsible are no longer in the Coast Guard. Let's see, the first two that come to our minds are:

Greg Giddens - former Deputy Program Manager for Deepwater that left the program right before Admiral Allen became Commandant. Giddens was promoted out of Deepwater to take over the Secure Border Initiative. The NY Times and Washington Post have reported extensively that the Secure Border Initiative is extensively experiencing cost over-runs, schedule over-runs, and performance problems.

Admiral Stillman - it was reported on this board somewhere that he works at SAIC. I saw an email floating around that stated this. Admiral Stillman received the Distinguished Service Medal for service. See these links:

By the way, Admiral Blore stated this:
“We owe Rear Admiral Stillman a huge debt of gratitude for his vision, dedication, and focus in getting Deepwater established, growing the program, and acquiring the first of the assets we so critically need,” said Blore of his predecessor. “I know he would be the first to acknowledge the hundreds who have supported him in this cause, but I believe it was his steadfast leadership that brought it all together.”

Of course, none of the deficiencies that have now been identified to the public (but were known to Deepwater officials as early as 2002) prevented the USCG from awarding the contractors (or as they call them the "integrators") a contract extension just before those two individuals left the program in May 2006 did they?

Keep in mind that Admiral Collins was Commandant when the award extension was made. Keep in mind that in many circles, Admiral Collins was viewed as being obliging to retired Admiral Loy and many Deepwater-delegation Congressmen. Adding various factors together, such as Greg Giddens leadership style and that may explain why things were done a certain way that led to Admiral Allen be handed the program in the state that it was and is.
