Check this out, looks like Congress (or at the very least the House) is apparently onboard with ensuring the USCG has full control of it's modernization programs...
More info regarding the authorization Bill in this weeks Navy Times. Note the mission creep for LNG security ops. Also, note the 325-7 margin that this Bill passed despite strong CG opposition:
The way I see it, we have a PS rating that is perfect for Port Security. We also perform a very similar port security mission in Iraq. There's nothing wrong with doing security like we do in Iraq here.
Heaven forbid we take "Coast Guard" literally. The Coast Guard's focus will slowly change now that DHS is better able to define what their agencies will do.
As far as Deepwater is concerned we should scrap it and focus on our own shores with smaller patrol boats.
Page 5, 4th paragraph of "NSC Delivery Schedule" Section in the GAO report of last month which confirmed previous accusations (vehemently denyed by the contractors until now of course) that similar C4I/TEMPEST discrepancies existed on the NSC as with the WPB-123 project...
...all while they disputed the reports and investigations, calling it all a "non-issue", denyed that similar problems were present on the NSC as existed on the WPB-123 project and stating that the whistleblowers were not "current" and/or "in the know" with what was "really" going on. Yes indeed.
The good thing is the Navy has agreed to provide their full NAVSEA documentation related to this issue. More information will be forthcoming to the general public very shortly.
