Not a real surprise, given the way the U.S. Dollar is in free fall. We can already feel it at the pump and at the grocery store, where it counts the most, for most folks...

Ive been telling you of the coming credit card crunch/crisis for over 6 months now but no one believes me until some faltering bank says so.
heck, the housing crash isn't quite over yet.
Im sure somone could go back and find whwere I also posted a 11500 Dow by summer. Ive again come within 300 points of it as we did in March but this time...
BTW, the fed will leave interest rates alone, for now.

This would be a great opportunity to pump some money into the stock market, folks. When everyone is panic selling, there are going to be some really good values out there to buy.

I'd suggest paying off as much credit as you can now and not getting into any debt that you can't pay off. The banks are not just going to 'forgive' credit card debt. If you are not paying and paying on time now, you might want to start.

We smelled it coming for a while. Just before our retirement, we paid everything off. Everything.

There was a story yesterday that mentioned the scope of the US corporate profits loss. It's big.

And you know - when people do all this screaming about "handouts" and such, there are millions who depend on the Federal Government. Not just employees, but contractors, local businesses big and small who survive on those people's earnings, and the like.

And, in case you forgot, this is all being propped up by massive deficit spending, and those tax cuts are allegedly responsible for a large share of our deficit, and our occupation of Iraq is a major contributing factor, as well. We have spent well over a trillion dollars there, with not much to show for in return.

Regardless of what the contributing factors are, which of the political office seekers, offer a valid solution for the problems? I have listened to both parties and candidates and neither seem to have the answer. Each has a part of it, but are not willing to look at each other and say or do what is the right thing or plot the right course for all of us. We, ourselves, to a large extent, still have the NIMBY attitude, look at California's attitude about off shore drilling as compared to Florida's...
WE are facing a crisis and no one wants to do what is right for ALL of US, just the ole,
MY PARTY OR NOTHING!", that time is over, we now either sink or swim on the outcome of this election...
IMHO...

On You Tube, the have a video by Disney Pixar, called Birds on a Wire. That is what is gonna happen to us, if we don't stop our sniping from party to party. If you get a chance, take a look, it's pretty funny and has a good message, when you think about it...
I'd post a link to it, put I don't know how...

Blue Line Jumps 11 Percent

quote:
NEW YORK–Excitement swept the financial world Monday, when a blue line jumped more than 11 percent, passing four black horizontal lines as it rose from 367.22 to 408.85.

"Even if you extend the blue line's big white box back many vertical lines, you won't find a comparably large jump," said Milton Vogel, a senior analyst with Merrill Lynch. "That line just kept going up, up, up."

"It's a really steep line," said Larry Danziger, a San Jose, CA, day trader and golf enthusiast. "I stand to make a tremendous amount of money as a result of the steepness of this line."

High inflation is a GREAT way to pay off debt. You might not be able to afford to eat, but unless you do something stupid down at the credit agency, that money you borrowed last year will still be payable in next year's dollars. Lookin' on the bright side. Cool

You shouldn't do that.

Wanna bet some of our fellows were off-line calling their brokers to slip some money into "Blue Line"?

Geez Sunliner you're amazing!

Where's all your crap about 'Democrats' and 'Liberals'? Now we're all in this together?

You're right we are. But 'this' that we're all in is a result of letting the economy run free to reward the deserving.

Note: While mortgage foreclosures hit an all time high in the States last year, so did the number of billionaires and millionaires.

I agree, but lots of income seems to be the only available solution to the inflation problem. There are ways. But nobody is going to hand anything to anyone on a silver platter.

Of course, if everyone willingly volunteered to devote several hours a day to helping their fellow man in whatever capacity was most needed, be it short-order cook, construction worker or company executive...bah, it'll never happen. The greedy and the lazy will never go for it. But perhaps if people had something tangible to look forward to or work toward...

Do you know of anyone who ever got rich by listening to someone else tell them what to buy and sell or where to put their money? I don't.

quote:
In trading circles, one frequently hears: "She's searching for the Holy Grail." Typically this means that she's searching for the magic secret of the market what will make her rich - the secret rules that underlie all markets. But is there such a secret? Yes, there is one! And interestingly enough, when you really understand the Holy Grail metaphor, you will understand the secret of making money in the market.

...

Most investors believe that there is some magic order to the markets. They believe that a few people know about it, those who make vast fortunes in the market. Consequently, these people are constantly trying to discover the secret so that they too can become wealthy. Such a secret exists. But few people know where to find it, because the answer is where they would least expect it to be.
