SARANAC LAKE, N.Y. — Votes were being counted late into the night in a hard-fought contest between a staunch conservative and a moderate Democrat for New York State’s northernmost Congressional seat, leaving one of the biggest questions in politics unanswered.
With 77 percent of precincts reporting, the Democrat, Bill Owens, had 49 percent of the vote, while the Conservative Party candidate, Douglas L. Hoffman, had 45 percent, a margin of fewer than 4,000 votes. Rob Ryan, a spokesman for Mr. Hoffman, said that a number of variables, including as many as 10,000 absentee ballots, could delay the results for days. “It’s going to be a long night,” Mr. Ryan said. |

Owens is speaking to the crowd now. Thanking President Obama now for his support. Thanking VP Biden also. He's looking forward to working with them both, for the people of NY.
He's now thanking Dede Scozzafava for her support. He mentioned Hoffman, and the crowd started laughing. He will be heading to DC in a few days. He will fight for FT. Drum and all soldiers. He said the most important thing is to bring people together and get results. Good luck with that. |

Gotta thank those Democrats in disguise. Of course Owens is more conservative than Scabbyfava. Hoffman shouldnt count on those Absentee ballots for any advantage. Im pretty sure Abraham Lincoln and Daffy Duck didnt vote for him. |

Yes, but in a district that hasn't elected a Democrat since the Civil War. I wonder how Palin, Beck, and Hannity are feeling now about helping to break that streak. You can bet your azz that if Hoffman had won Beck and Hannity and the rest at FOX would have been screaming non-stop that it validated the tea parties, the 9/12 Project and all of that. And of course they'd claim a lot of the credit. |

A Republican is by no means an upset or surprise victory - though I doubt McDonnell would have won had he had to face Tim Kaine. As for Corzine and NJ, Corzine is so corrupt that even I wouldn't vote for him, hence no surprise there either. Face it, Governors have little power when it comes to DC. |

A Democratic spokeswoman says the party’s chairman, Joe Cryan, was not aware of the robocalls when he denied that the state committee had anything to do with them yesterday afternoon. Cryan, who told PolitickerNJ.com yesterday afternoon that the Democratic State Committee had “absolutely” nothing to do with the call, could not immediately be reached for comment. The call angered Republicans and further fueled conspiracy theories that Daggett is in cahoots with the Corzine camp. A disclaimer at the end says it was paid for by Victory ’09, “a project of the NJDSC” (Democratic State Committee), and gave the committee’s Trenton address. Daggett, for his part, disavowed the call. “Voters hate robocalls. "Today, it's clear that Cryan is an outright liar. Corzine's party boss knows what we know - Jon Corzine's record is so dreadful that they feel a need to try to trick voters into a second term."
