Michael Yon has a copy of a letter to military personnel from the Department of Transportation, warning about incidents in which soldiers in uniform have been verbally assaulted by crazy ranting moonbats while riding the Washington DC Metro.

Mike Yon wouldn't lie. If he says there's a letter, there's a letter.

Anyone who risks death, wounds or sexual assault in defense of liberty, shouldn't have to face verbal abuse on the nation's transit systems.

Everybody should be on the lookout for the fiend who is upsetting girl soldiers with his fowl anti-democracy rhetoric. Horrors! What if there's more than one of him?

I emailed the TSA to ask if this is real. This was the response:
"The information contained within the article entitled; Verbal assaults directed at uniformed [military] personnel, was not originated by the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) as implied. Although after becoming aware of the message; the FTA forwarded the report to the Metro Transit Police Department (MTPD); the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) National Operations Center (NOC) and other appropriate authorities in order to ensure that they were aware of the allegations within the report; the U.S. Army actually generated the report. That said; I’ve been advised by officials of the MTPD that an incident did occur recently whereby a person in full military uniform was verbally harassed by an unknown individual. The MTPD is well aware of the incident and is giving the matter on-going special attention. The police further point out that the military person was not harmed. Moreover; the incident appears to have been at random and there’s no indication that this type of harassment toward military personnel using the Metro system is on-going. "

There is no pattern of verbal abuse against uniformed Department of Defense personnel in the DC Metro system. The memo sent to Department of Defense security managers was authored at a high level, and exaggerated the number of verbal assaults from one confirmed event into an apparent outbreak, while attempting to shift authorship to another federal agency.

Soldiers are not being systematically targeted by aggressive anti-war protesters in the Washington D.C. area, but someone within the Department of Defense is willing to stoke those fears, without merit.

Beware of bogus emails which try to whip up hate and fear for political purposes.

So where's Mike Yon in all this?

He stays close enough to Mil.com to know if he's being defamed, or not.

I donated to his site last year, and before I repeat the exercise, I want to know if he has the letter that was cited.
