Why the White House Opposes the GI Bill
http://www.military.com/opinion/0,15202,169105,00.html

I hope, I really and truly HOPE that GW vetoes this bill, because it will be nullified by override, and it will also slam-dunk McCain into the loser column this November. Last nail in his coffin, so to speak?

There is NO good reason why this bill should be vetoed. Even conservative "think-tanks" have said the benefits would mean an increase in volunteers, and that would off-set any losses and THEN some.

Can't wait to see the VETO ceremony for this one, and the excuses.

outlaw...if only that were the case.

"The Administration's argument is that if a GI Bill benefit is too good, it'll reward veterans too richly for their service and draw them away from re-enlisting"

Now isnt that the most rediculous thing you've ever heard? Reward vets TOO richly!!! There is no reward great enough, this country needs to learn how to respect its vets and give credit where credit's due.

There is a lot of unecessary spending attached to the bill, but considering the current GI bill, our vets need something fast.

I would like to see what is in this bill. If it is stuffed with pork, it should be vetoed, but a good alternative should be submitted.
A 0.5 % pay raise? That will go a long way!

This regime has always treated GIs as through away humans. They will take every photo op to stand with the troops and say what a good job they are doing but stab them in the back when it comes money time. Gov Bush and the rest of the chicken hawks does not care two sh*ts about the GI never have never will. The American GI deserves all we can give and do for them. Don't let the lowe life cowardly deserters and dodgers tell you any different. They cowardly either desert or just dodge but do not serve. We even have some of the dip sh*ts in milcom who feel as though they have a voice but never served. I have one thought for you " screw you"

To those of you who serve I salute you remember you are not second class servants of the these low life chicken sh*ts but you are American warriors stand tall hold you head up high and when you return home take what is yours. Never I mean never step aside for one of these low life non serving scum bags.

To you non servers get a 214 or shut the fu*k up.

The funny thing is that they say it lead to members not re-enlisting. Why should that matter. If you stay in its still free!!!!!

This bill is NOT "stuffed" with pork barrel projects. Just examine this bill alongside the bill that had the "bridge to nowhere" millions that Rep. Stevens tried to push through, then tell us all how much "pork" is in THIS bill.

This is for Veterans, and it is NOT full of wasteful spending projects.

That argument is John McCain's... and it is crap.

S.22

This is Senate Bill 22, Educational Assistance for service members since September 11, 2001. I guess this is what you guys are calling the new GI Bill... it is really an additional program for those who have served since the attacks and in Afghanistan and Iraq.

As long as it doesn't get swept up in the normal political BS and tacked in with a lot of pet spending... it would be great if I/we can reap some benefits for what we have done.

Sometimes outlaw confusses the troops with the policy. What he means to say is he supports the policy.

Dude...do you know anything about the congress at all? Let's take a look at real pork...the bridge to nowhere (put forth by republicans and signed into law by GW). So when they get all holy about stopping pork, I become very skeptical.

Interesting mix.. McCain helped kill the Bridge to Nowhere.. and has never solicited pork.. compare to Obama's 90 mil in one year.. not bad for a junior.. maybe electing him president will save us money by getting him out of the senate before he gets enough seniority to do real damage.... Wink
