Now us true conservatives will take back this country one district at a time. Momentum is on our side. I guess I'm one of those guys who is stuck on his guns and religion.
Republican Dierdre Scozzafava has suspended her campaign for the New York House and is encouraging supporters to embrace Conservative Party nominee Doug Hoffman. Campaign spokesman Matt Burns says the State Assemblywoman thinks dropping out of the 23rd Congressional District race is in the best interests of the party. The announcement comes after a Siena College poll found she was in third place with 20 percent of the vote in the heavily-Republican district, while Hoffman and Democratic nominee Bill Owens were too close to call, with 35 percent and 36 percent, respectively. The election is to fill the House seat vacated by Republican Congressman John McHugh, who was appointed by President Obama to become Secretary of the Army. The election is Tuesday. Quickly after Scozzafava's announcement, Republican National Committee Chairman Michael Steele said the RNC is endorsing Hoffman, saying the change of course is effective immediately and will include financial backing and get-out-the-vote efforts for the Conservative Party candidate. Steele called Scozzafava's move a "selfless act." The race has pitted conservative and moderate wings of the Republican Party as political leaders seek to stake out the future of the GOP. Some are pushing for an inclusive, moderate future, while the more conservative wing is willing to risk a Democratic win to send a message to Washington. Scozzafava's critics said she's too moderate, even liberal. "Conservative Republicans will undoubtedly claim victory in sidelining the moderate GOPer Scozzafava," said CBS News' director of political coverage Steve Chaggaris. "This has been a big fight among Republicans over the past few weeks, with prominent Republicans such as Sarah Palin and Tim Pawlenty coming out in favor of the third-party candidate Hoffman, and Newt Gingrich supporting the GOP-backed Scozzafava." Scozzafava had also received an endorsement from the National Rifle Association. Other Republicans who have endorsed Hoffman include former N.Y. Governor George Pataki, former Sen. Fred Thompson (R-Tenn.), former House Majority Leader Dick Armey (R-Texas), and former presidential candidate Steve Forbes. CBS News chief political consultant Marc Ambinder said Republicans will derive two lessons from the results of this race: "One is that the activist base of the party is becoming increasingly powerful in the one area that had eluded them: candidate selection. Other conservative Republicans may now feel more comfortable if they decide to challenge incumbents in primaries." The second lesson, Ambinder says, is that "populist, regular-guy candidates can win in supposedly 'moderate' districts." He also said Democrats will take the sidelining of Scozzafava as a positive trend for the long-term, believing that the Republican Party will conservatize itself to death demographically. "I'm fighting for the heart and soul of the Republican Party," Hoffman told The Associated Press last week. "I believe the people in Washington, and the overwhelming response that I've been getting nationally from individuals, is showing that a lot of people feel like it's time for the Republican Party to go back to its base." In response, Scozzafava spokesperson Matt Burns last week characterized Hoffman's supporters as carpetbaggers: "Everybody who has endorsed Doug Hoffman has something in common with him, and that is that none of them live in the district." |

A Hoffman win will doom the Republican Party to being a social club, rather than a national political party.
If no moderates can get the endorsement of the GOP, the conservatives will win in conservative districts, but lose in moderate districts. And not at all on a national level. This is a conservative country, but not a far right country. Newt Gingrich is one who understands that. |

Regardless, it's a win for Conservatives and ensure another Neo-Marxist won't be seated in Congress.
F the Republicans. F the Democrats. It's time for a third party to arise! |

Thanks for making my point.
It is a small minority who would consider someone like Dierdre Scozzafava , who was endorsed by the NRA, a Neo-Marxist. The group that insists on candidates who are as conservative as Rush or Hannity is doomed to be a minority party, loud, but not effective politically. |

No, I was referring to the DEMOCRATIC candidate, who would have won if the Conservative and Republican candidates spilt the vote. |

So it is the Air Force veteran, practicing Catholic, pro-business guy who was born and raised in small New England towns and now lives in a very conservative district who is the Neo-Marxist. Yes, I can see how that makes sense - to a small group of people. Minority Party. |

The fact of the matter is that she would have never been the nominee if NY held a Primary for this seat.
She was "selected" by the Party Bosses in NY and thanks to NY's election laws Hoffman was able to run as a third party candidate. It really does not matter what the GOP wants, the voters in that area are speaking and they are saying that they prefer Hoffman to Scozzafava. |

Moderate??? Hell, she was more liberal than the socialist Democratic nominee Bill Owens. Im glad she came into the light. xerello, the whole country is leaning conservative. They are tired of all this tyranny inflicted upon the people since 2006 and the outright communists who now control the executive branch. Yes, SOME people may have voted for change but most didnt realize they were voting for Stalinism. |

The whole country has always leaned conservative. The word “leaned” is there because most Americans who vote on a regular bases are mostly moderate, but on the more conservative side.
My comments are from the prospective of a conservative, but a more centrist conservative like Newt Gingrich. Pulling the GOP to the far right will win some local elections, but doom the party nationally. Saying things like “They are tired of all this tyranny inflicted upon the people since 2006 and the outright communists who now control the executive branch” plays to only a certain minority – a loud minority, but still minority. The majority of Americans who lean conservative do not think that President Obama is a communist or that they have lost any freedoms since 2006. Statements about "Stalinism" are seen by most Americans as just crazy talk. Those who spout such nonsense drive the centrists from the party and will keep the GOP a minority party, giving more power to the Democrats – that will not be good for America. |

Looks like the GOP is purging out any moderate candidate - and with it, any hopes of regaining national power.
The GOP's stupidity makes the Democrats stronger every single time. |

Thanks xerello for pointing out AGAIN, that some posters are quite content to do their bit for the ‘conservative’ party by denigrating another veteran. |

huh??? I would have picked Owen over Scozzafava any day. He is much more conservative than she is. See, Im not a "party" person. If a democrat is more in line with my views and beliefs then I will vote for them and have before. Its not about what "party" is right for America it is about the individuals we elect to office that we hope are right for America, regardless of party affiliation. There are quite a few conservative leaning democrats in congress right now that dont agree with the Stalinist agenda being pushed on America.
the problem is, as demonstrated by numerous videos of "americans" during election time is that a good many of them dont have a clue about anything. Over a 3rd of those voting for Obama didnt know who Biden was or what the speaker of the house does. over a third of Americans cant recite the preamble of the constitution or name and locate the states on a map. Nor can they explain how a bill becomes law or what the electoral college is. More than half of those voting for Obama didnt know he was a Senator from Illinois nor could they name anything on his platform other than the simple minded word "change" quite a few of them actually thought he was going to pay their mortgage, their car payments and in cities like Detroit, 60,000 people showed up recently thinking that they would get a check from Obama with no questions asked. Lets face it, we have a very dumbed down electorate who dont bother to learn about the candidates and rely on media campaigns and false promises to lure them to the polls not knowing anything about the candidate at all. |

....except whether they have a "D" or an "R" beside their name. As discovered by residents in Kinston, N.C., voters get too confused when they are left to do their own research about candidates, or so the Justice Department has determined.

Other than youtube, do you have ANY thing else to back up ANY of that? |

How about over 200 hours of voter canvassing experience last election cycle? The American Voter base as a whole is not very intelligent when it comes to the issues or the candidates that they are voting for. That goes for Republicans and Democrats. The worst part is that it is not getting any better. Almost every high school senior I talk to can not tell me the branch of government where spending originates or who is third inline for the Presidency. These are kids who are required to take an American Government class in order to graduate. It saddens me deeply. |

Well, for one, Obama is currently president and he didnt get that way via an INFORMED electorate, that is a FACT and Youtube simply provides a GLARING EXAMPLE of that ignorance as there is how many dozens of videos? And as far as Detroit goes, well there is more video coming right from the folks lined up to get there check. I dont speak for these folks, they do quite well making their case themselves. The facts about how dumb Americans are from an ABC 20/20 report "Stupid in America". The facts were so incredible I remembered them. cant believe so many did not know the states, how a bill became law, what the speaker of the house does or their position in leadership, the preamble to the constitution. most of these people, IIRC were under 35. Its truly sad. |

"New York Times' columnist David Brooks appearing on PBS Friday night, does not think so. He described the moment as part of a "race for the soul" of the Republican Party. Like other centrists, he now worries about the implications of allowing the purists to define the agenda. " Scozzafava has a voting record which puts her at the exact middle of the political spectrum ," he said. "And the question is: Can Republicans have a centrist and still be a Republican? Newt Gingrich thinks so. He thinks you need moderate Republicans. A lot of Republicans apparently don’t think so." ***http://www.cbsnews.com/blogs/2009/10/31/blogs/coopscorner/entry5475675.shtml*** |

Where Scozzafava stands:
- voted to legalize same sex marriage - is pro-choice - endorsed the stimulus package - endorses cap and trade - endorses employee free choice act - did not rule out changing to the democratic party if elected governor - received a 15% rating from the Conservative Party of New York for her voting record With "moderates" like her, who needs liberals? |

contrary to Motive's liberal biased CBS link, itismarine points out that she is very much a liberal and NOT moderate at all plus she supported card check. She could easily pass as an obamanite. Sorry, dont need folks like her in congress to further screw up the country. |
