Obama honors 11th Cavalry Vietnam vets

The tribute came about due to the tireless work of Capt. John Poindexter, the commanding officer of Alpha Troop at the time of the battle, who six years ago began documenting the bravery and gallantry of the men of Alpha Troop during those two days in March 1970. In the preface to his book, called "The Anonymous Battle" concerning the no-name battle, he said he had read that none of the members of Alpha Troop had received medals, even though the paperwork had been submitted. Through his diligence and persistence, he righted that wrong, Steinka said.

Amazingly, more than 100 soldiers who survived the battle attended the ceremony in the Rose Garden at the White House. President Barack Obama praised the soldiers and awarded them their medals.

"The Presidential Unit Citation is awarded for 'gallantry, determination and esprit de corps in accomplishing its mission under extremely difficult and hazardous conditions.' Since its creation during the Second World War, it has only been bestowed about 100 times," Obama said. "Today, another unit assumes its rightful place in these ranks — Alpha Troop, 1st Squadron, 11th Armored Cavalry, the legendary Blackhorse Regiment."

This was on local news lately that involved one of those 11th cav vets living in STL in an old railroad boxcar. The neighbors wanted him evicted and proceedings were started to do so until this happened at the WH. All legal proceedings were dropped. Goes to show just how informed people care not to be about life happenings when they turned a blind eye or shouted obcenities years back.

The tribute was nothing more than a token gesture by this administration. Obama has always and still is anti-military.
