She was never convicted of anything, although her husband did serve eight years. That she was accused of fraud is not surprising, but her supporters didn't find the accusation especially convincing, or even relevant. Musareff may or may not have been directly responsible for her death, but he certainly did not extend himself to prevent it. |

I take your point Robbie about embedded reporters, but don't have a real answer. The alternative would mean depending for news on what the military or the Administration wants to tell us . ..and I'm not sure about that. Michael Yon is fairly objective. Have you read any of his stuff?

Why blame the media? Blame the source...its basic operational security...if the NYT's can learn of it who else is out there that knows...and can use the information in mischievious ways. When a terrorist uses information involving a security breach and a media outlet withheld information that could have corrected a problem they would be crucified if they didn't report it so corrections can be made. Catch-22. might as well sell newspapers. To think that this would inhibit CIA operations in theater is not realistic...it just allows the pakistani government to posture and look tough to extremist elements in their country. |

How many Special ops teams become "lost" and "accidently" cross the borders on patrols? |

One could argue that it is not for President Musharaff to provide security for candidates over and above the normal safety of the everyday 342 ministers in Pakistani. Having said that, it has been reported extensively that the Pakistani government along with U S giving her intelligence on the probable assassination attempt. Along with providing security agents from the west. This would have been obvious and cause more disturbance than no security at all. There was also an attempt to persuade her to utilize private security within Pakistan, which she ignored. This last event was said to be a carbon copy of the October blast that killed 150 admirers and police only this time she failed to get back into the safety of the bulletproof car. She had many enemies while security is a must is not a guarantee to safety, attested by many U S politicians that came under the gun.

True...Hunt them all down. But I think Bush has forgotten that...when he said he wasn't worried about Bin Laden...not worried about one man. So my point is...it's not really anyplace or anytime...that was just a ploy to get reelected |

Since when did our government give a rats azz what Pakistan thinks? I don't think P-stans "threat" is worth squat and certainly won't deter Bushie from doing whatever he wants to. If the Pakistani's won't take care of the issue then I suppose we will have to in order to keep them from "coming here".....

Holy crap...did you really suggest to the people on this site to read a book? Just kidding...most Americans are moderate mainstreamists and that "balance" is really important...thanks for the opinion. |

You do realize that these "anonomous sources" are actually in the Bush Administration, right? But of course, anyone convicted would get the Scooter "Get out of Jail" free card, since leaking is not a crime to these fellows. |

We care alot about what P-stan thinks, they have been crucial in the implentation of our war in afghanistan...we want a moderate government in place there...we don't want the extremists taking power because they are a nuclear power...we are worried about proliferation. We should care alot. This country has threatened the use of nuclear weapons over their border dispute with India. Imagine having a government their bent on our destruction. |

I don't have to imagine, although it's not a specific country inasmuch as it is the entire region and their religious beliefs that lead them towards trying to destroy us. As for being crucial in our war in A-stan, then why are they crying foul about some "supposed" incursions into their country. Seems they would be most supportive of our efforts to get rid of terrorists, if they were really "helping" us. This message has been edited. Last edited by: mmulder67, |

A good portion of American media is owned and controlled by those who dont subscribe to the constitution or American interests. (Foreigners) Every time American media giants are allowed to sell controlling interests to foreigners, Its like selling Gun emplacements to the enemy then complaining about the incoming. |

Excuse me but WTF are you talking about? The NYT has been owned by the same family for 110 years. Other top media outlets (excepting Fox, which is owned by quasi-Aussie Murdoch) are American owned and operated (by law, for that matter). NBC/Universal is owned by GE, ABC by Disney, CBS by Viacom. The only "media" company that has foreign owenrship that I can think of is Sony/Colombia and they don't work in Broadcast or News. You don't know what you are talking about, the Times and others are frakking spoon fed this stuff, look no further than 1600 Pennsylvania Ave. for these "undisclosed sources". |

Now that you managed to make two digits, you might want to read the terms of service if you want to make it to three. Personal attacks on the President are forbidden, although attacks on the President's policy are fair game. Them's the rules, like it or not ... but as we like to point out, that is still a target rich environment. |
