If a tree falls in a forest and lands on a politician, even if you can't hear the tree or the screams, I'll bet you'd at least hear the applause.

Ah, yes. Seems the Israelis have munitions to burn, sort of:

"The Israelis flew east from the Mediterranean Sea over the northern part of the country, broke the sound barrier and "dropped ammunition" over deserted areas of Syria overnight, the spokesman was quoted as saying by the official Syrian Arab News Agency."

Wonder if the Syrian troops ever heard an aircraft go sonic? And why, pray tell, did the pilot drop ammunition over a deserted area? Cluster bombs that only go off when the inquisitive pick them up for a souvenir? Have a good day!~!

Possible logistical supply area for insurgents in (a/o going into) Lebanon...
Bomblets are dropped to deny use of an area, route, avenue of approach/egress...
Obviously, not for training/practice.

More interesting that the story isn't "Israelis violate Syrian airspace", though. Cool

How did the Syrians know they dropped ammo? Did they check the area out or just assume they did drop ammo? How far did the Israelis fly into the airspace? None of this was told.
I think they are just trying to get some attention by crying wolf. Some of it may surely be fabricated to make it sound worse.

The dropped "munitions" may well have just been the fuel tanks, dropped when the pilot realized that a Syrian SAM had him locked up.

I agree with OldMole - headline should have read "Israelis Violate Syrian Airspace".

Well, if Syria shoots one or more of them down next time, the Israelis have no room to whine about the loss of the aircraft and/or aircrew in the process.

They have also come through all of Iraq's neighbor's borders, and a fair number of the non-Iraqi insurgents are Saudi, Pakistani, or Yemeni in origin.

Anyways, hope the Syrian gunners score a hit next time Wink

Well, it will teach the Israelis that there is a price to be paid for intentionally VIOLATING the airspace of another sovereign nation.

Let me see, if the Chinese violated our air space in militry aircraft we would most likely do what? Wave at them or shot them down. I pick shot them down. When you invade another nations air space in a fast mover you are trying to creat an incident. I hope the Syrians do a better job next time. It doesn't matter if you agree or not that every nation has the right to defend it's self from these types of actions. If we have the right to defend our airspace then so do the Syrians.

Or perhaps check the balance sheet???

We will see...methinks China and Russia are building an economic powerhouse moreso than a military one...

Remember how Reagan brought down the Wall?

Seems they do...yet We have forgotten...

Reagan didn't bring down the wall. It fail because we out spent them for 30 plus years. When they tried to keep up with us the gutted their economy. And I never saw Reagan running a boarder trace or going eye to eye with the Russians. That was alot of Cold War warriors doing that and alot of Administrations, both Republican and Democrat, who stood firm. Reagen just ahppened to be in office when it came down. If the Russians had held out a little longer it would have been Bush I or Clinton.

It seems to me, regardless of how you feel about Syria or Israel, that Israel violated Syrian airspace. We would call that an act of war here in the US, and act much as the Syrians did I'm sure (actually, we'd probably send up interceptors and try to shoot it down in a dogfight).

I'm all for Israel existing, but they need to respect the other nation's borders if they expect to get any sympathy from me. If their plane got shot down by Syrians after they intentionally provoked them, would that be used to justify an invasion of Syria?
