Isn't there a red light district in the area? If not maybe the military needs to go back to the days when they shipped bus loads of hookers to the bases.

Now some of you old timers might remember back in the old cowboy days, if stationed at Okinawa you could at least take Leave and head on down to either Subic Bay for Olongapo R&R or head north to Korea to Downtown Etiwan for R&R there...but, some do gooders in congress and at the Pentagon decided that "That kind of patronage is bad for the troops" which we all know is BS. It's pretty easy to go crazy in Okinawa if you didn't have that 30 day leave to clear your mind with.

I'm definately not condoning what these Marines are accussed of (noticed I didn't say "what they did")... But those old Liberty ports were great Stress relievers...if ya know what I mean

And Yes, I made a many a crossing of the Sh*T river...and I aint ashamed of it either.

Maybe we should pull-out and let Japan get

What a lot of Marines don't know about here in Japan is this:
Even if the woman was consenting to sex and of age .. if she lives with her family she can NOT consent to sex. It is up to her family if she can have sex. If her family doesn't like or deem the guy fit - it is rape.

We are in Oki and my hubby has to tell all new Marines here here this info. Now 4 Marines on one girl - yeah it seems like rape. That is why we have very strick drinking regs here. 90% of all rape and sexual assulat here is due to drinking.

I never asked a hooker for her daddy's permission. She treated me like Jerry McGuire, "SHOW ME THE MONEY"!!!( I do you long time...)

I hope this isn't true.

Don't jump to conclusions. Did they refuse to pay her? Is she saving face by having sex without her familys permission? Was it really rape? Why did she volunter to leave the bar with four men ? Do you believe that she thought that they were just going for a ride and the men just wanted to talk? There is more to this story that was reported.

Different Countries - different laws. My husband has dealt with this in the past. Family honor is a very serious thing here. We have only been here for 6 months and have seen many cases regarding this.

If these Marines do get convicted of this horrendous crime then they deserve the maximum punishment. I was in the Army for almost 10 years but I was never stationed in Japan I had a brief stopover there on my way to Korea. I can tell you from my experience from what went on in Korea when I was there ,soldiers would drink themselves in to an oblivion and go out and do things they normally would not do if they were sober. I heard about so many incidents like this happening when I was in Korea and to me their was just no excuse for their actions.

This type of thing is deffinetly not what the Marines stationed on Oki need. The relationship between the Okinawans and the Marine Corps has been stressed for years and this could drive it to the breaking point. I was never stationed in Oki but do the Okinawans feel the same way about all services or just Marines?

This is exactly the type of behavior that causes the loss of strategic bases in the world especially in Japan and on Okinawa. The Japanese / American political relationship is already strained as a result of past rape cases over the last 20 years.

I was stationed on Oki as a Marine at MCAS Futenma back in 1985 and even back then, the local populace wasn't keen on having Americans around. They want your money, they just don't want you around. Typical scenario.

The story starts of as "restaurant or bar". Which one is it? And why whould she get in the car with "four guys" and drive off? Remember that the media only prints what is good for reading. Not one person here is even remotely intrested in what happened. Everybody is assuming that these guys are guilty. There our American brothers and remember that they are innocent until proven guilty. At least in the States they are. Now if there guilty, I say hang them and make an example of them not because there Marines serving in a foreign country but because they raped a "female".

I was in Japan for about 8 years and we got alot of alleged rapes from the host country. Just because were Americans we get man handled due to the involvement of the media and the CoC doesnt want to look bad if they start to back up the service member. Either way we are in a loose loose situation.

"Now 4 Marines on one girl - yeah it seems like rape". How would you know? Did you investigate this, were you there? No, this is the kind of thinking that we dont need. Instead lets wait to see what the outcome is and then judge. Besides if some wrong doing did occure then the Lord will Judge.

Brother I was thinking zackly the same thing. I won't admit to lousey behavior of consorting with hoe's, only because I have a granddaughter on board and have to be 'grandfatherly'. But, I'm not that old and still have glimmer's of the day's of high adventure. Anyway, I fail to see how it's possible to rape the willing, if you know what I mean, and every Vet knows what I mean! I sincerely hope these young men are given a pass on this one and shipped home, rather then to an infantry unit in Iraq, as was done in the "good old days".
