Democrats refusing to stand for the Pledge of Allegiance! In this case, though, the context actually improves the story. This takes place in Albany, where the New York state Senate remains locked in a power struggle in an evenly divided chamber. Rather than an insult to American patriotism, the Democrats here engaged in an insult to the intelligence of New Yorkers:

This is the fault of the people of NY State. Regardless of party, they elect these fools and then keep sending them back so they can engage in more foolish behavior. The road to change is in the ballot box and New Yorkers, as well as the rest of us, need to realize that and act accordingly.

From the UNITED STATES CODE, TITLE 36, CHAPTER 10 - PATRIOTIC CUSOMS:
§172. Pledge of allegiance to the flag; manner of delivery
The Pledge of Allegiance to the Flag, 'I pledge allegiance to the Flag of the United States of America, and to the Republic for which it stands, one Nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all.', should be rendered by standing at attention facing the flag with the right hand over the heart. When not in uniform men should remove their headdress with their right hand and hold it at the left shoulder, the hand being over the heart. Persons in uniform should remain silent, face the flag, and render the military salute.

I like the part that maybe they learned their flag etiquette from the POTUS.

Vote em' out.

These are the same turds that locked the Repubs out of the house, literally.

Hey it's NY's problem.
LMAO!

And our reps in DC (dems) had a moment of silence for Michael Jackson, nice to know they have their priorities straight.

It should be up to New Yorkers to straighten this out. Either the public votes these folks out, or it proves some americans remain clueless on principles.

I hope they vote them out. I won't hold my breath though.

Aint no one being voted out of office for this, or the rest of the crap being pulled in Albany.
Our Governor makes most New Yorkers cringe with his ineffectiveness.

NY Dems would vote for Pol Pot if he ran. Right now one of the Dems at the center of this, who is voting with the GOP is also under a cloud for Attacking his Girlfriend with a broken glass.

Woman required 20 stitches.

Really he's just making a power play and the NY GOP shouldnt have anything to do with him.
I would say that at least 1 on them tried to stand but was pulled down, so at least he knew it was wrong to sit through it. The rest of the Dems likely have little in the way of Scruples.

Oh, and Republican Bloomberg is an ***hole as well. Thinks he can buy his way into a third term because he cut a deal with the dems on the City Council to ignore Term Limits voted in twice by the electorate.

Anybody see Glenn Beck yesterday? He had a guess speaker on board who worked as a Senior Field agent with the CIA during the Clinton Admin and the Bush administration. He said Jimmie Carter was the worst President this country ever had and Obama is not far behind him. He also said the only way to wake up America is for another 9/11 to hit us but on a bigger scale. Beck said something to the effect that OBL should hit us now but the fact is that OBL would be a fool to hit us again because we are destroying our country much faster than he could. GUESS WHAT? BECK IS RIGHT!

Basically all true, although the Republicans in Albany are no better in any way then the Albany Democrats. There is really little to choose from between either group.

You didn't mention Pedro Estrada, that the republican caucus just elected President of the Senate (and therefore becomes Governor if anything happens to David Patterson) and who apparently bolted his party because they wouldn't pony up the earmarks headed for the medical non-profit he runs (which is incidentally under state and federal investigation for fraud).

Most of these lovely little shenanigans are about the abrupt about-face republicans are having over "fairness" ... a matter that never concerned them much for the forty years when they were running it ...
quote:
Their first act after staging a coup on June 8 was to institute rules changes to guarantee that administrative budgets be divided equitably. They have also said they want to guarantee that member items, the earmarks that are perhaps Albany’s most precious commodity, are split equally.

Legitimizing those rules changes is seen as critical to giving Republicans a voice in a future Senate that most believe will be ruled by Democrats. Democrats could always rewrite the rules if they claimed a clear majority, but reversing changes meant to establish fairness would be a controversial step for a party that bills itself as progressive.

“For myself, this is very much about the rules changes,” said Senator Tom Libous, a Binghamton Republican who directed the coup last month from the Senate floor. “These rule changes will make every senator relevant and effective so he or she can pass legislation and have equitable resources for their district in the future.”

Of course, Mr. Libous acknowledged that his party was asking for an equality that it never contemplated when it controlled the Senate, which it did for more than four decades until last November’s election changed that.

“I’m not justifying the way we ran the house,” Mr. Libous said. “I’m telling you it’s wrong and we should change it. What we did to the Democrats all those years was not right.”

Sort of like the born-again deficit hawks in the House, it is hard to take them seriously ... or treat this frankly inflammatory story as anything but the silly stunt it was. Cool

Please don't try to batch a single party into a batch of "Negatives." This is called an Alpha Error. Let's do the best we can with what we have here. The Call to Public Service is the highest Service one can possibly serve. Let's get together and help out and do the best that we can. Our Nation is in deep economic and social difficulties. Let's do the best that we can do to get together!

I missed that Beck show Duster. I never have cared for Carter and he still keeps writing books and acting like he is important. blah

I don't want another attack on the US.

It is bad enough we are going to have a huge fight ahead of us in Afganistan.

Shoot, I wish I had a radio or tv show or paper, I would print everyday all day the names and faces of these people who disrespect America, its flag and people.

Imagine, our military is over there fighting the bad guys to keep us and others safe while these jerks sit in air conditioned places doing nothing but blowing hot air.

Out with all of them.
