Out on the golf course, I see the female birds chasing off the black birds trying to steal their chicks - little birds fighting these preditors that are two or three sizes larger - it brought to mind my Dad telling me a long time ago, a woman scorned or one that is protecting her brood, will kill you faster than a man. Is there doubt in anyones mind that a woman will fight to the death to protect what they believe in?
Whatever. You can get a panel here to say that women are the toughest, most bada**ed critters on the face of the planet, and a 90 pound woman "protecting her brood" will kick the s**t out of the toughest 10 men ever born.
Bulls**t.
Israel tried the "women in combat" experiment and it failed. Of course there is a peanut gallery who thinks it's still a great idea. They've had several wars to test the idea and it has never worked out well, or they wouldn't be having this discussion now.
IMO, this is Politically Correct stupidity run amuck.
I remember when I was in the Air Force back in the 70's. The genius powers-that-be decided that since the Air Force had become composed of 10% women, therefore 10% of each AFSC (or job field, whatever they call it now) had to be women.
A young woman I knew, not 90 lbs. soaking wet, was made a jet engine mechanic (NOT her choice, either). The toolbox & tools she was assigned weighed more than she did. To make a long story short, she developed a serious hernia after less than a year out of tech school, had to be given a medical discharge, with a disability pension. Great return on recruitment and training investment, eh?
Now, I'm not saying women can't function as pilots or otherwise on aircrew. But IMO, the idea of women in the ground combat arms, as well as non-combat jobs requiring brute strength, is ridiculous.
There's a reason why traditionally for thousands/millions of years men were always the ones who hunted and went to war; we're physically stronger/tougher. Period. We're wired differently.
Granted, you have your exceptions, I've seen a few tough women that could kick some men's asses. But they aren't the norm...
Not to mention it'd create more distractions in the field... bottom line, is if it ain't broke then don't fix it. I had a few debates about this with my ex (she is in the Coast Guard). She said women should be allowed to be in the grunts, I laughed at her. I told her she doesn't have a clue some of the **** we do. Finally, I said "ok, then pick me up and carry me." I layed on the floor and she tried to pick me up and complained I wasn't helping. I said "I can't help, I'm seriously wounded or DEAD, so you have to do all the work." She couldn't do it. And she's fairly strong/tough for a woman, she'd probably kick most women's butts. I said "my point exactly... and keep in mind this is WITHOUT gear and ammo and WITHOUT rounds zinging past your ears..."
Thank God the Corps still hasn't integrated boot camp. I have nothing against women, and there are exceptions to every rule. But they are rare and it's not worth bending rules for those few. It's fine the way it is, so no need to change.
