When I read stuff like this, I have to wonder just how much longer the current Iraqi "government" will be tolerated, both by the Iraqi people AND the American taxpayer.

The stakes are a tad higher in Iraq, wouldn't you say?

Point is, with all there is at stake there, maybe they are just UNABLE to "get it done".

If they could have, they would have already.

I still say the proposed "oil law", passage of which is one of the "benchmarks", is such a divisive issue (it is opposed by many Iraqis)that it is actually prohibiting any forward movement on the other issues.

But, if we don't nail down those PSAs and get them signed by the Iraqi government, there really isn't much point in us being in Iraq, is there?

Hah. Yeah. At least we can confidently say we've "Americanized" the Iraqi government, if nothing else.

Big Grin

Sometimes you have to fight a war with the government you have, not the government you want.

A paraphrase of something else about the same thing.

PS Did somebody actually check that they were buying into those benchmarks and timelines? Or was that a 'failure to communicate'.
