Some things such as Saw grass and Algae are perfect examples of biomass that could change the way the US drives and produces fuel. Instead of killing the bill, they just need to change it to remove food crops from the legislation and ensure it includes other types of biomass. This legislation is not a bad idea, just incomplete and poorly thought out. All we really had to do to get a leg up, was to check with the Europeans and read their report of their problems with the 2003 European legislation on Biofuels and we could have and still can skip half the problems. It is time for Biofuels, Biodiesel and Ethanol in the US, now before it really is too late.
Ethanol is very bad and a great money waster! Biobutanol is the way to go, better all the way around... Respectfully, SUNLINER81
"Ethanol is very bad "
Do you have any thing on this I have been searching for white papers on this but all I can find is crap written by KB Hutchison and we all know that is not objective she represents the corrupt oil regime. I am not saying you are wrong It is just that I am looking for something scientific on the subject by someone other than the oil thieves.
Here you go on some of it. One of the articles said that it was more expensive than ethanol, which is contrary to other articles that I've read and I will try and get them for you. I usually type in biobutanol and they are the first ones to come up, but not this time, I will still keep looking. Particular, biobutanol from algae, seems to be the answer. I know that BP has had a trial plant running in England and they are actually trying it with the motoring public in England now, to see what if any drawbacks there are to it. As of yet, I haven't heard of anything, but then I haven't gone out of my way to look. Here are some sites... www.greencarcongress.com/biobutanol/index/html www.bioenergy/wili.net/index/Biobutanol http://en.wilipedia.org/wili/Biobutanol#Algae_butanol Respectfully, SUNLINER81
Well, cr-p, I tried them and they won't come up, let me go back and see what I'm doing wrong... Respectfully, SUNLINER81
O.K. let's try this one and see if it works. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Biobutanol Then go down the page to algae... You can also do a search under biobutanol gasoline... Respectfully, SUNLINER81
Well cr-p again, this time it won't come up underlined and in blue, I must be doing something wrong. But if you type it in, it will go through... I really hope you check it out and do some research on this, because, I am really sold on it. It is far better than ethanol and can be produced from non food stocks, as well as food stocks, but that would be defeating the purpose. I have seen papers on it, 'course now that I want to pull them up, guess what? Well, despite my not being able to get it linked for you, please check it out, I'm really sold on the stuff, it's far better than ethanol and just, in my sometimes not so humble opinion, is really the way to go... Respectfully, SUNLINER81

The switch grass based fuels will be produced by American farmers and the profits derived will be spent in the US.
What is to prevent farmers from continuing to convert food-oriented crops to switchgrass, thereby putting further upward pressure on food prices? After all, not only would there be profit in doing so but it is far easier to grow.

I understand algae ... but the person I was addressing said "switchgrass" and "farmers" ... I'm looking for his thoughts on his concept. Thanks though.

Yeah Jade, but if you produce it from algae, it doesn't affect food production. As one poster put, New Mexico, could become this nations fuel producer... Respectfully, SUNLINER81

Again, I understand algae ... have read quite extensively on it. My question presumes the "switchgrass" and "farmers" as suggested by 6837602. Thanks though.
It's still ethanol, butanol is a much better fuel and requires no modification to any engine to run it and it is compatible with the existing fuel storage and transfer systems in use in the United States, ethanol is not... Respectfully, SUNLINER81

Switch grass can be grown on scrub land that can not be used for food crops. It can be grown in the right of ways of all our interstates. There is allot of land to grow switch grass on with out using food producing land. I have friends in TX that a have planted it on their non producing land and are going to distill it for use in their farm equipment.
I believe the movement toward biofuel is so strong now that baring some legislation initiated by the oil thieves it will become the dominate mobil fuel in about 6 years . The oil thieves could try, through legislation,to push up productions fees so high that the farmers could not produce it them selves . They probably will. I hope not it is going to provide a good pay check for the American farmers even small farmers.

I understand that too ... but ... the question remains, if switch grass "takes off" and produces more revenue than conventional crops, what is the mechanism for preventing farmers from taking land used for conventional crops and instead growing switchgrass on it ... much as some farmers have dropped wheat in favor of corn ... following the money.

As the price of food goes up it will equal out which ever commodity is needed the most will get the land. One thing we are going to have to do is thin out the human population we have way more than we can support with food water and energy.

Legislative action would appear to be the only answer to it... There is also coal gasification and liquification, using new less polluting processes and oil sands and oil shale. Let the oil barons keep to their oil, Archer Daniels Midland to food and let a new industry take place on the non food producing lands... Respectfully, SUNLINER81

Thank you! That is the answer I was fishing for ... and just what we need ... our efficient and productive Congress telling farmers what to plant where!
No thanks ... I'll pin my hopes on algae and a slew of nuclear power plants, hopefully for the most part Generation 4.

And now we can replicate the chemists themselves as well.. even tweak 'em to remove their acne and pocket-protector fetishes..Mean and uncalled for, I admit, but I just got some disturbing news.. and I was already at my optimum level of disturbed....

Well, with cold fusion, you could run your truck and or car with beer, just poor it in the "Mr. Fusion" from Ronco mounted in your trunk and off you go. So when the cops pull your over and say you had an "open container", you just rely, "Why no officer, it's just a gas can."... LOL Respectfully, SUNLINER81
