It must be hard to educate children in a high school where the adults lack common sense.

If my child would want to wear a US flag to a US school located in a US state, I certainly would let them. I can assure you the school system would have one hell of a fight with me if they sent my child home or refused them access.

This is America...and way too many of us have bled and died for the right to show our colors.

Isn't it illegal for someone to ban the display of the nations flag?

What to pick and choose? I wonder if they have an American and state flags in front of their school. My kids would be able to ware them or we would all be going to court. Folks remember this North Carolina not California, Massachusetts or New York. I would really love to hear what their two senators have to say. Do you think election year politics could come into play with what “John” and “Elizabeth” might say on this subject?

At least that’s the way this old soldier and proud Coast Guard dad sees it! :

I am afraid I would have to escort my child to school while she was wearing the American Flag and I would be wearing and carrying the American Flag along with about 50 of my Legion Buddies chanting "USA" as we stood in front of the school.

It is well to remember how far we have come, isn't it ... in October of 1968, Abbie Hoffman got arrested for wearing a flag shirt.

Personally, I do think that it isn't unreasonable to hold the national flag to a different standard than the flag of, say, Mexico. I think this case is one of taking "even-handedness" to absurd extremes. Cool

Needless to say, I would not hold the "Stars and Bars", that I suspect had something to do with the rule in the first place, to the same standard.

Well, I've done a bit of digging: The Superintendant of Sampson County Schools: Dr.L.Stewart Hobbs Jr. has no listed email!
However, various members of the Personnel Office DO: Asst.Super: croyal@sampson.k12.nc.us
Program Asst: jwuester@sampson.k12.nc.us
Program Asst: cpearson@sampson.k12.nc.us
Mentor Coord: bnordin@sampson.k12.nc.us
Staff develpment: sturlington@sampson.k12.nc.us

Hobbton High School is in Newton Grove, N.C. whicxh is in Sampson County. I have already contacted the local paper and left a letter to the editor. If MORE people do the same, the School Board MAY have to reverse this ruling!! Wink

Well it use to be that you COULDN'T wear clothes made to look like the flag. As far as that goes I am mixed on it. a picture of a flag on a t-shirt i don't have a problem with, but someone wearing shorts or pants or something like that, that is to look like the flag that people are sitting their fat rears on I don't like!

The superintendent of schools in Sampson County calls the situation unfortunate, but says educators didn’t want to be forced to pick and choose which flags should be permissible.

oh for me to be a 16 year old teenage girl at that high school! Big Grin I'd just HAVE to show up in a stars & stripes bikini and see how the superintendent managed it!! Wink heck, when i was 14 i showed up to school with a t-shirt that said **** Iran. Yes, i put a little sticky thing over the "U". haha! Principal had no idea what to do with me. Big Grin Lets see, that was 29 years ago. And, I still say, **** Iran and my old high school principal is dead.

But, back to topic. I do believe North Carolina is part of the our country; ergo, the United States of America; ergo, the U.S. flag should be the one to be flown, shown, worn, etc.

About the only circumstances I could think of when you would want to see the Stars and Stripes at half-mast. Cool

The guidelines for displaying the Ensign are quite clear in reference to "wearing" the flag.Shirts, pants, etc made to resemble the American flag shall not be worn out of respect.I'm given to understand blankets and the like are frowned upon too, as they frequently come into contact with the ground. However images OF the flag on apparel are permitted. I have a drawer full of red, white and blue.Wear 'em all the time.
