KILLEEN, Texas - Officials at the Fort Hood Army Base in Killeen say seven people are dead and at least 12 are wounded in a mass shooting on the Fort property.

The attack apparently happened at the Soldier Readiness Center.

Army personnel say they are not certain whether the victims are civilians or military personnel.

The Fort Hood public affairs spokesman said the Army is setting up a special operations center to handle the response.

Good Lord! This is a mess. I hate when this sort of un-needed tragedy occurs.

Who handles the law enforcement? Is it military? Killen Swat or Sheriffs Department or a combination. And or who would be in charge of a combination of agencies?

MY pray goes out to those impacted by this tragic event.
Usually there are civilian contractors who handle security on base.

"Fort Hood officials have reported a shooting at the barracks by Howze Theater on Old Ironside and 41st Street on post today.

Emergency personnel are on the scene.

Victims of the incident are being transported to Carl R. Darnall Army Medical Center for treatment.

The incident happened between 1:30 and 1:45 p.m.

Fort Hood has been locked down.

Three of the soldiers have been taken to Metroplex. Three to Darnall.

Killeen Independent School District school on post have been locked down and district officials are meeting right now to form a plan, said Leslie Gilmore, KISD spokesperson.

MSN.com is reporting that one shooter may be held up in a building with a high powered rifle & had fired on a SWAT team. They also report that there maybe a third shooter.

Law Enforcement on Hood is a Mix of MP and Federal Police, Contractor Security.

Hood has an MP Brigade Assigned as well as the Divisional and Corps MP Bn's

MSNBC: (update) At least seven people were killed and 20 wounded in a mass shooting Thursday at Fort Hood, Texas, one of the largest military complexes in the world, NBC News and affiliate KCEN reported.

Two suspects were captured and four swat officers were wounded, NBC News and KCEN, based in Waco, Texas, reported. The station had earlier said that one of the shooters had been holed up in a building on the base and had opened fire on SWAT team members. KCEN quoted a source as saying the shooter had a high-powered rifle.

KCEN reported that a policeman was among those shot. The shootings took place in two locations on the base — at the Soldiers Readiness Processing Center and Howze Theater, according to a military spokesman.

I am watching this live right now, I heard that the death toll is at 9 right now as well. My thoughts and prayers are with the families at Fort Hood.

Prayers go out to those involved and also to the family members who must be going through hell right now. That includes every family member who must be struggling to find out if their loved one was involved.

FORT HOOD, Texas – The U.S. Army says 12 people have been killed and 31 wounded in a shooting rampage on the Fort Hood Army base in Texas. Lt. Gen Bob Cone said at a news conference that one shooter has been killed and two suspects were apprehended on Thursday. He says they are all U.S. soldiers.

The shooting began around 1:30 p.m. Cone says that all the casualties took place at the base's Soldier Readiness Center where soldiers who are about to be deployed or who are returning undergo medical screening.

He says the primary shooter used two handguns in the attack.
