Barbara Walters and her producer of the "View" need a flaky panel member to keep this farce alive. Rosie O'Donnell went off the deep end so they axed her and brought in a new flake, Whoopie Goldberg. Her "View" of the dog fighting charges agains't Michael Vick, "from where he comes from", in the South, dogfighting isn't that unusual. (IT'S ILLIGAL WHEREVER YOU COME FROM). "It's like cockfighting in Puerto Rico". (NO IT IS NOT and besides THIS IS THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA). How about we put some claws on Rosie and Whoopie and put them in a mud pit. WHO DO YOU THINK WOULD WIN THIS CATFIGHT? I would bet on Rosie.

Which is exactly what I would expect for "Whhooooooopie" to say. . . so much for style and substance.

Solving the Michael Vick issue is simple.

So, he says he "loves" animals and he has "found" Jesus. . . . Okay, here is what we do. . . we throw him in small cage with the 53 dogs that "fought" for him, and see if he can convince them that he loves animals. . . if he can't convince them, I think we will find out rather quickly if he really found Jesus as well. . . . or if that was convenient hype as too.

Better comparison would be selling crystal meth. Not that unusual in the south, and illegal as hell.

Oh, take a chill pill. It's just dogfighting, and he pled guilty so he'll get the same punishment as anyone else convicted of dogfighting, which is probably a year and some probation. It's not like they caught him with a 14 year old hooker or a bag of cocaine or any other actually serious felony.

Gosh, maybe we ought to throw YOU in the cage with the 53 dogs Vick used for fighting, . . . and see if they appreciate your enlightened "its just dogfighting" viewpoint. Roll Eyes

I must agree, in the grand scheme of things it by no means the worst thing that has happened over the past few years. Not sure that the sport will ever be carried on ESPN although it might appear on one of those designer networks that keep appearing on cable. I imagine that securing corporate sponsorship could prove challenging, perhaps local bail bonds companies would consider doing so. The trick will be to also introduce various dog related cuisines - after all the sport is little diffent than hunting and one should always eat what is killed...

Maybe instead of sentencing Vick to Federal prison they should sentence him to a few years in the Korean countryside. Maybe then he would appreciate leaving dogs alive...

Gosh, maybe you should get a grip. It's a minor felony. Vick will get at most 5 years, and realistically, he won't get that. His crime was the judicial equivalent of an ounce of weed.

He committed a federal crime, he pled guilty, he has a felony record, he lost millions of dollars, and the gambling charges he pled to may very well result in a lifetime ban from professional football. Can you say "welcome to the arena league, Mr Vick"? He did the crime, he'll do the time. Some people have a variety of opinions about how bad dogfighting is. Obviously, Whoopie Goldberg and others don't care that much. Obviously, SgtSchaeffersMom and others are frothing at the mouth like you chewed up a whole box alka-seltzers. Personally, I would rather have Federal agents tracking down and busting terrorists or drug dealers or child sex slavers, but if you're more concerned about dogfighting, I guess you can sleep snug at night. They nabbed a real arch-criminal.

Are you kidding me? I'd have much less of a problem with Vick if he'd simply been caught with some coke rather than with clear evidence of a LONG history of viciously murdering innocent animals for facking "sport".

You snort coke, you hurt nobody but yourself. You murder dogs for the hell of it, you're a bloodthirsty, thuggish excuse for a man, directly harming many innocent, trusting creatures other than yourself, for no reason beyond your own sadism.

" clear evidence of a LONG history of viciously murdering innocent animals for facking "sport"." sounds a LOT like hunting, which a lot of people think is cruelty to animals, but that horse has already been beat to death on this board.

And no, I'm not kidding you. Dogfighting is a minor felony. You can get more time for a drunken barfight. The only reason it's a federal crime at all is because it's often a cross-state gambling enterprise. I'm not saying it should be legal, I'm saying what the legal system says: it's a minor crime. If you want it to be a class A felony equivalent to premeditated murder, write your congresscritter and tell him to introduce a bill to change the law. That's the wonderful thing about states. You can convince your state to introduce a bill making dogfighting a capital crime. You will get laughed at by everyone except PETA and maybe SgtSchaeffersMom, but you have that right. Hell, in Minnesota (or somewhere up north) it's a felony to have sex with a dead animal. Other states don't care if you frick a dead deer.

Bottom line, it's a minor felony, and some people don't have an issue with it. Some people don't have an issue with selling dope as long as you aren't doing drive-by shootings to protect your turf. Some people don't care about gambling. Some people don't care about child abuse. Others have a huge problem with all of those things.
