WASHINGTON – In a coup for House Democrats, AARP will endorse sweeping health care overhaul legislation headed for a history-making floor vote, officials told The Associated Press on Wednesday.

What a shame, the only thing in this legislation for seniors is Medicare cuts, more expensive medical equipment due to increased taxes, and of course the loss of experimental drugs....I think they just lost a lot of members today or more likely tomorrow since the news just came out! Eek

They would be retarded to continue to be members.

We already are pitting the elderly vs the young here in PA. The last to receive the swine flu vac when we get them are the higher higher age groups. It has been on the local news several times but I cannot find it listed on the web.

We will all be old one day...some sooner than others, when that day arrives for us all it will be too late to voice our concerns. By then we will be a burden.

I cancelled my membership with AARP a few years back. They did absolutly nothing for me and they do nothing but rip off the sen
ior citizens of this country each day with their crooked politicians and lobbyist. IMO the only reason they have any membership at all is because some seniors are just too dumb to know the difference or still want their 5 to 10% hotel discount at those cheap hotels that give them.

They claim not be be a Health Insurance company, yet my mother - in -law gets insurance adds from them all the time.

Me thinks they have something to gain out of this, like GE does with the electronic med records.

AARP is one of the Largest Lobbyists (always in top 10) in the Country but like ACORN seems to have forgotten its original purpose years ago. They built the powerbase and claim to speak for seniors (its members) but is now a self-serving beauracracy. It offers its members so-called discounts along with 'lower' rates for insurance, medicine, etc. when in fact most companies will provide the same or better rates if you investigate and shop around.
In all my years as a member, I have never once been asked my opinion on any of the programs they support but they lay claim that they survey members and do what is in their best interests.

Indeed, excerpts from the bill concerning Medicare to begin in 2010:

TOP 14 PROVISIONS THAT TAKE EFFECT IMMEDIATELY

1. BEGINS TO CLOSE THE MEDICARE PART D DONUT HOLE — Reduces the donut hole by $500 and nstitutes a 50% discount on brand-name drugs, effective January 1, 2010.

6. ELIMINATES COST-SHARING FOR PREVENTIVE SERVICES IN MEDICARE—Eliminates co-payments for preventive services and exempts preventive services from deductibles under the Medicare program.

7. IMPROVES HELP FOR LOW-INCOME MEDICARE BENEFICIARIES—Improves the low-income protection programs in Medicare to assure more individuals are able to access this vital help.

8. PROVIDES NEW CONSUMER PROTECTIONS IN MEDICARE ADVANTAGE— Prohibits Medicare Advantage plans from charging enrollees higher cost-sharing for services in their private plan than what is charged in traditional Medicare.

Well you can bet that I will do the same as I have for the other offers to join. I put them in File 13! The fact that I turned 50 in late Oct, I have received 4 things in the mail from them. The latest is the membership card. I haven't joined them even..... This backing of a dumb bill will ensure that I never join them.

And that is why hubby and I left AARP and sent donations to the Harmer campaign here in California's 10th district. Plus worked the phones last night.

We did not win yesterday, but we will not surrender and will not submit to the Facist Pelosi and her Ilk.

You do realize that with a public option many will be left in the cold when it comes to advancing medicine due to cost effectiveness don't you?

Clearly, elderly seniors use the most medical equipment out of the general population, yet, the Bill being crammed through even though polls show it is NOT what Americans want will raise taxes on medical equipment directly affecting the seniors who live on FIXED incomes in most cases barely making ends meat as it is.

I know Obama has no plan to pull the plug on granny, but he will make healthcare very expensive for seniors and he will deny them the plug to begin with as to not be lying when it comes to pulling the plug (i.e., no experimental drugs or no drugs the Government sees as unnecessary).

You and your other Liberal Progressive buddies will never see reality since you are all stuck in some ideological brainwashed realm and can never seem to think for yourselves even if the truth gets no clearer!

So there is a large print copy of all 1900 pages of this bill?
Does anybody know what is in this newest turd? I don't.
I know if Pelosi is behind it it spells trouble for the country's middle class.

Amazing, lets celebrate seniors getting the shaft! Roll Eyes

Sea, in the end if the Progressives have their way and gain total control over all the masses like they ultimately plan, the GLBT will not be treated with much respect, don't take my word on it, just look at history and do some research on these Fidel Castro loving clowns pushing for the Govt Option (i.e., Govt take over of healthcare) and their views (Eugenics and such)...Keep on supporting your cause since you think these folks actually care about you which they don't....IF they can so easily deny services to seniors without any remorse at all, you will be next, count on it! Eek

C Everett Koop Just slammed pelosi and reid and the admin, on this bill and process, basically saying they have no clue and surround themselves with dumbazzes that know nothing about HC. And why all the secrecy especially when The Obama promised transparency.

BTW, when his letter went to those knuckle heads they brought in hazmat teams to check the letter.

Do you watch the news? The young are at higher risk of contracting H1N1 than the old. Usually the elderly are the first group outside health wrokers to receive vaccine. This flu is different, it mainly attacks the young. So logically would we not vaccinate the highest risk group first?
