This is a good thing. This is a great example of giving to those who deserve without making them feel like it is a welfare situation as well!

I wish there was more I could with Habitat for Humanity. I've helped build a home once with them, very very rewarding.

I have personally logged quite a few hours with Habitat for Humanity, working on houses.
It sure is great, as a fellow veteran, knowing that some of those "brothers in arms" will benefit, as well!!!

This is an oustanding idea and a great opportunity to help the veterans returning home in need.

I too am a fellow veteran and hope this idea spreads throughout the nation so those of us who can help have another way to give back to others.

As a Viet Nam era Vet (Non Service Connected)I have been in a wheelchair for 34 years. I currently live in a 22 year old Doublewide mobile home which is in need of major repairs. Currently when something goes wrong with the place be it plumming, electrical, structrual..my wife who works full time and takes care of me, has to make repairs to the best of her ability. In 1992 I made a request (No, Pleaded)for Habitat for Humananity to just assist with minor repairs, but was blown off like I had ask for a Million dollars. I lost my faith in this orginization then, after I served my country, my community, and served the Federal Govt., only to know and see families that do nothing but sit on their butts recieveing welfare giving nothing back to their community or anything else. Good deeds do not always get rewarded. Do I sound mad and disgruntled? RIGHT! So go ahead with your " Vet" home building, we'll continue to get by, and I'll continue to adhere to my values, and do all I can for not only my Brothers in Arms, but my fellow man in need who is trying.

WOW! I'm sorry to hear about that! How long ago was this? Did you go local or higher with the request?

Let me make this very clear.... I HATE HABITAT FOR HUMANITY! I am a combat vet and an American natural born citizen. I lost my home to a tornado in 2001. Habitat turned me down when I applied for help. I also did not get any help from FEMA either. I applied to Habitat again in 2003 and again they turned me down. Habitat builds homes for illegal aliens and non-natural born citizens all the time. I know of one woman they built a home for who was born in Jamaica and neither of her parents were citizens of America.
