quote:
Several thousand anti-war demonstrators marched through downtown Washington on Saturday, clashing with police at the foot of the Capitol steps where at least 160 protesters were arrested.

The group marched from the White House to the Capitol to demand an end to the Iraq war. Their numbers stretched for blocks along Pennsylvania Avenue, and they held banners and signs and chanted, "What do we want? Troops out. When do we want it? Now."

By the end of the article, it's saying there 100,000 protestors...???? wish the reporter would make up his/her mind. no mention of GOE of course.

100,000? possibly 25% of that number would be accurate. Funny how they had to start breaking the law for police to finally do something as thier mere presence didnt seem to have any effect and thier presence was marginalized by a near equal number of troop supporters lining the streets. Too bad we cant send thier sorry A**es to Iraq to serve as shields for the troops

Hi groovy, Here is the full link: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20070916/ap_on_re_us/iraq_war_protest

Also a link to the quoted speaker for the counter-protesters mentioned in the article: http://www.buzzpatterson.com/

I still fear that the division in America over the war will turn worse than the '60s if the presidential candidate on both sides don't take a stand on the extremist statements. Our nation will be hurt but it will hurt of guys and gals in uniform even more.

Why don’t the members of military.com all make a promise that will stand against anyone or any organization that preaches this stuff. OK, I know we have both extremes herein, but at least think about it.

Oh, yes, we all need, especially me, to remember to “play nice” with each other.

At least that’s the way this old soldier and proud Coast Guard dad sees it!

There are those who have NOTHING better to do with their lives on a beautiful Saturday afternoon than to protest an unpopular war - OMG did I say that outloud? Eek War is unpopular? (DUH!!!!) - to make some non-essential statement and their thoughts were apparently all over the board. Even their disdain for President Bush and the Iraq war couldn't unify them....

9/11 theorists
Bush haters
Iraq war haters
Isreal haters
Hummer haters
and of course, my personal favorite, the sign begging for someone to give the president a blow job so they could impeach him....

Ineresting, "to say the least", or is it "to say the most"? I never know which is correct. Wink

Did anyone lobby for giving Gen. Petraeus and Amb. Crocker more resources for nation-building?

If not, the actions of both sides were equally irrelevant to winning the war.

Equally harmful to our soldiers, in fact. Frown Mad

AFAICT, Michelle Malkin and her fellow ideologues will do and say *anything*---no matter how harmful to the war effort and to the unity of our nation---provided it helps them make as much money as Rush and Ann Coulter. Frown Mad

This wasn't right-versus-wrong. It was wrong-versus-wrong. Frown Mad

Both sides had stagnant showing. It just goes to show that people have better things to do than to stand by what they preach. By better things to do, I mean sitting on the sofa and watching TV.

I disagree.

Compare:

Retired Air Force Lt. Col. Robert "Buzz" Patterson:

"Congress, quit playing games with our troops. Terrorists, we will find you and kill you," he said. "And to our troops, we're here for you, and we support you."

with:

Anti-war activist Cindy Sheehan:

"It's time to lay our bodies on the line and say we've had enough," she said. "It's time to shut this city down."

Seems to me the high ground (and the positive message) belongs to the GOE.

Sure...whatever...

quote:
Army veteran Justin Cliburn, 25, of Lawton, Okla., was among a contingent of Iraq veterans in attendance.

"We're occupying a people who do not want us there," Cliburn said of Iraq. "We're here to show that it isn't just a bunch of old hippies from the 60s who are against this war."
