Any judge who revoked those custody arrangements because of deployment should be required to put on a uniform and get into the real world. Additionally, a recall petition should be started for them to knock off their fat cat salaries and put them on the unemployment line.

You are, unfortunately, always going to have some judges that think just being in the military is 'agains tthe best interests of the child' and rule against that parent. They forget to check out why the other parent lost custody in the first place.

This is how it worked for me in my divorce, and I think it should be considered as a possible solution.

Let the kids decide for themselves with whom they wish to stay with. They are not stupid!!

Damn that Democratic congress. They must really hate the military. Those damn Democrats haven't done anything since they were elected. Those liberal, socilist, leftists are going to tear down this country. They want the terrorists to win.

Oh! This isn't the war funding thread. Nevermind!

I don't know. I see this bill as being a good thing, depending on why the other parent lost custody to begin with. However, I can see it being very difficult for a kid to move from one home to another every 12 months or so. If the parent who lost custody isn't such a bad parent that they got temp. custody when the service member was deployed, I think they have a good argument with why they should continue to have custody. In some instances it's not so much one parent is a bad parent, versus one is a guy. Most states still prefer to give custody to moms and if the dad is a good parent but he's a guy and lost custody for that reason and then gets temp. custody while mom is serving her duty, I think he has every right to argue for custody.
What really needs to happen is parents need to start talking...if both parents are good parents then they should share custody anyway.

You're right is not the War Funding Bill. But it wouldn't surprise me if the dumb azz judges who did this to the soldiers, arent anti war libs.

Good thing you are not biased. BTW, what judgeships are up for election in your county? Are you a member of a committee that choses candidates for judgships? The solution can only come from the grassroots.

I don't see how this one cannot pass. I find it ludicrous that a judge would take a Soldiers child from him/her because they are away serving their Country. This is one of the many ways to support the troops.

Yeah, a stable home to raise a child in has nothing to do with it. Nothing at all. "Screw the child's needs, it's all about me and what I want". Some of you need to step back and look again.

By the way, most times the "other parent" lost custody because he has testicles....not issues. In most states mom can be a meth head who tells the judge she needs the kids to sell their a**es for drugs, while dad is a baptist minister...unless she is in jail, mom will get first crack at custody every single time.

Fitness of the other parent has squat to do with who gets custody, and a parent shuffling the kid off to whichever relative is available every other year isn't good for the child.

The best interest of the child should always come first. I don't think gender has all that much to do with it. I know money does. If you can't fight it you're outta' luck. They, judges, don't always act like we suspect. IMHO only.
Respects,
