I think Russia is trying to find it's identity.
They see that Putin is leaving soon, China is on the rise as a hemispherical superpower. And they have oil so they feel they have power. They may feel it is a good time to flex muscle because they think that our missles shield that is going into parts of eastern europe is a means to keep them under control. It may well be but we have so much on our plate in staving off the GWT that we want Russia to just play along. If they choose to show that they are a force to be reconed with then maybe that is a good thing. Perhaps we can do something with the people of Russia to help them in there elections. Perhaps we can shed light on thier huge drug problem or the corruption in thier government and the people of Russia will elect a person who will be able to assimilate into the GWT. This is 2007 we should be taking more strides to achieve what President Bush Sr. A "New World Order" so that the planet can rise up against radical islam. We celibrate life not death. Let the Russians train and spend money on arms we may get a stronger ally in the future but at the same time we should spend money for intel out of the former USSR and China and not let our intel assests go to the dogs as they did under clinton. I see him as 80% of the reason we are in this mess! REMENBER SOMALIA!!!!! RLTW!
P.S. Don't get wrapped around the axel re. my spelling I type fast

Welcome to In the News.

Here we begin discussion with a link or a direct reference to a story in the news.

Take a moment and look at some of the existing beginning threads, the Read and Heed and TOS of this site for more information.

It's a good idea to introduce your military affiliation for the benefit of the more experienced posters to get things going.

Thanks.

You western folks dont seem to realise that Russia is actively involved in fighting terrorism and has a bigger problem with it than does the US. Since 9/11, Russia has dealt with 2 plane bombings, a school siege, and 3 train bombings along with numerous car bombings.

Some guy on Glen Beck recently came to Russia for 3 weeks and then felt he was knowledgeable enough based on that short amount of time to judge how things are done. Sure there are military troops & armoured vehicoles in the streets of Moscow, St Petersburg and other cities, Big freakin deal. It only seems to freak out western visitors. To Russians it is visible proof that someone is being vigilant for their safety. US is different as the Military rarely, if ever, gets involved in law enforcement as they do in Russia.

About state of Russian Air force. Its not as dire of situation as it was in mid and late 90s.
In fact, if we were to take a snapshot of today's russian air assets we would find a situation much like the one th US faces. Many US legacy A/C are very close to airframe max time. The Navy has shortage of F18s, and fleet reserve F16s and F15s are also now in service to replace aging A/C. About half of produced Su27s and Mig29s for Russian VVS are still in service but due to low hours because of lack of money to fly and fuel, are expected to outlast thier US rivals. To match fleet reserve F15s and F16s, Russia is building advanced versions of the Su27 and Mig29 and upgrading other low hour units. nearly 200 Mig31s are also getting upgrades although it is no longer in production.
The amount of Russian and American Bomber forces are very equal. The US has more B2 bombers than the Russians have of thier version. The edge held by the US is in completed stealth aircraft and both countries are turning out UAVs by the dozens.

Dont be worried about Russia as they have no hostile intentions towards the US. They are just showing the world they are relevant and are no longer the whipping post for the US.
