Take a look at the magazines that are often on display for women.

Between the hair, makeup, and other ideas on how to look pretty, often to get a man or what?

The look at the books available, how many are little more than Harliquin romances, that often set women up for very unrealistic expectations on what a man if for.

Which mags are more damaging? Ones that turn women into Brittany Spears clones, who get knocked up, strung out on drugs and partying, and losing their kids to social services.. Or mags that teach women to get a man, for he will full fill you? Or what? Take a look at many movies today, they are little more than male sexual and ego fantasies, with women often playing just the role of romantic interest. Or who to chase after, or who gets caught by the villain and the man has to rescue her.

True, not all are like that, but .. I like to see more thinking magazines, but looking at who we have elected for political offices, I think we need more political magazines but not likely to see them. More like all we will see is more:

Sports professional
Sports non-profession or not as big as foot ball, such as fishing, hunting.
Girly magazines on how to be a party girl 16 yo, and be thin and have an attitude.
I have been seeing more sci-fi, and science magazines, so we shall see. As well as history (military mostly) and even some political science, and even some computer stuff, other than just online gaming).

Cheap Internet, but expensive gas, makes me wonder what we will be in 10 years? Stay at home workers, working only close to home, reading our mindless magazines, listening to our IEntertainment and zoned out not talking to any one else, unless they are online and connected?
Or even worse, staying home, running wars across the planet, not realizing the war we are fighting is real for someone or ... I digress.

Freedom of Speech and Movement, hard to have if you never talk to anyone other than over a medium that is very easy to filter/censor, and you don't go any where.. or worse not out of the house?

Hum, thank you, an idea for a SCI-FI World?

I wonder how many women buy the magazines for themselves? And not just for the articles.

I expect when the "Don't ask, don't tell" ban is fully lifted, you will find a number of lesbians in the military, or bi-sexuals, and not just cause of some males fantasy of two women.
Or as a gal I know who used to run one of the local strip clubs, most of the dancers was not into men for sex, just for the money.

if they take the "porn" off the shelves, they might as well take the muscle and like magazines as well and then what?

Or does some one have stock in the publishers that publishes the muscle magazines, but not playboy?

Someone one needs to get the Congressmen some shares of Playboy or .. Maxim or what?

I don't see Penthouse any more, and definitely do not see Hustler or Perfect 10, or Barely Legal or other magazines? Used to read some of the, but working and GF keeps me busy.

Maybe they need to find more ways and means to bring women to mostly combat arms posts, so the men don't have to fantasize, but have for real?

I keep telling the kids here, if you know a gal back home, bring her here, import her. The ratio of men to women here is around 4:1 male/female, and oddly the crime rate is pretty low last I checked..

Porn ban is just putting a bandaid on a much larger issue, and will not solve much of anything. As the boys deploy soon, things may get worse, as they let off steam and frustrations and fears that come with deployment, and then when they come home, the "fun" they have to go through one home.

From reattaching to kids and wife/spouse.
As well as any suprises that come, even if rumored. But also to just mellow out, relax, remember how much fun the world is like, versus Iraq/Afghanistan and other like places. So far things have been good, the local strip clubs, bars, massage parlors I believe have helped..

Heh, I wish they did not exist, but people need places to go to and RELAX.. Mellow out, not get to drunk mind you, but socialize, play some pool, decompress and sleep longer than 4 hours, or stop clutching where their weapon was, or knowing that noise is an okay noise and its okay, or knowing that road side trash is not something else.

And seen a number of women who go to the clubs and like.. But this is a GI town, its not the guys who see the women as possession, but seen to many who see the man as a ticket out of BFE. Meet, get drunk, get knocked up, get married, child support and out of dodge.

Yes, men need walk away! and the women to let them do it.. But .. seen to many times where the women uses the kids as a weapon against the guy? Pushing buttons she knows not to push, but pushes them any ways.. And then wonders why he like the fighter he is, fights back? Yes, some changes need to happen, but its not all the guys, women need to change as well. But ..

If you want to talk about rape and such, listen to the music many listen to, such as how much of the HipHop music is very degrading of women? And even worse, potentially racist. But you see it in the PX/BX as well?

Yes, sad about the men cheating on their wives/girlfriends, but also sad about the women doing the same thing, TDY single or spouse deployed? Seen many Army wives going to Air Force clubs, getting some strange stuff. As well as many Army wives, using off post facilities to deal with an opps or like.. Not wanting it on their record of treatment and such, that hubby has been gone 10 months, but she is 3 months pregnant? Opps..

goes to show nothing else except those who have nothing to do with the military wanting to have them live a life they themselves have no guts nor wish to live.

some seriously need to wake up and say something. its when people posted are given free reign to impose thier definition of the rules do the people at the bottom suffer because of these hypocrites.

first it was banning most of porno mags in exchange shops on the belief it made people want to rape the opposite sex or cheat on thier significant other. but a bigger question comes out of it. where is this proof that such an activity is even going on? just because a person may think its going on doesnt mean it is.

than of course later soldiers cannot see a prostitute. based on the grounds that it encourages slavery and human traffic exploitation so again what happens when outlets are slowly but surely taken away. all on the grounds because some people are trying to score an end goal. its far too easy to see where this part will go. if soldiers do go out and see one. they sure as heck wont report an std knowing that how severe the punishment would be if it is found out. and on the other side of the coin some entreprenurs knowing they become a very hot commodity now have the means to really pad their bank accounts knowing whoever comes to them is not going to turn them in since they would bring down alot of heat on themselves by others who were seeing them. finally actually encouraging sexual assualts because no other outlets exist.

as the slippery slope continues into today as the net widens. aside from the known soft core porn being considered to being banned what other ones as other posters pointed out will get banned because they showed a little skin.

going into to today as the war on terror continues we ask our service members to be away from loved ones for long periods of time, risk to get blown apart, suffer ptsd from constant deployments. but heaven forbid they touch a beer or look at a nudie mag on thier off time.

now im just waiting for new things to get banned as soldiers deploy so far whats the list looking like:

no alcohol
no porno mags
no sex unless its with your spouse and she/he is on the deployment as well.

what are the next ones going to be?
no red meat
no pogie bait
no video games
no books
no civilian clothes
no personal computers

it becomes mind boggling when will the stupidty being exhibited finally stop and common sense finally take hold

41 pages of comments ... wonder how many have taken the time to e-mail or write their congresscritters with their viewpoint on either side of the issue.

My message was simple - "Nay to Braun's legislation".
