Who’s freedom of speech, and I assume right to view pornography, are we fighting for? The Iraqis? No, actually I wasn't referring to only THIS war, even though we ARE fighting for the Iraqi's to have a voice. That's kinda what a diplomatic government is all about...the people having a voice. But, I was also referring to WARS that we have fought in years past. People seem to forget that we HAVE HAD other wars...this isn't the first!! Rapes and criminal sexual behavior are "up x3" without porno material?? Good thing I got out of there when I did. I didn't say this and therefore can't agree or disagree but I can say that my husband had WAY more women hit on him in the desert than he has had stateside!! And I heard about them all. Once again, maybe there is something different in my water, but my sex drive is just fine without pornography. If pornography could make it any better, I might not get anything else done around here. I never said that pornography is NEEDED I just said that it doesn't need to be banned. Just because you don't like it doesn't mean you should take it from someone else. Viagra causes more sex than porn, should we take it away from the poor bastards that it helps?? |

I think everybody is missing the point here!!! Porn rags are not …repeat, not being banned. They will probably no longer be sold …repeat… sold at AAFES. Now …listen… that doesn’t mean they are not allowed, or dare I say …banned. Rather, they will still be allowed, just no longer sold at the AAFES checkout.

Nanjing good point, AAFES is after all technically a private company, even if I believed owned by ..... So what they do, is their choice.
For their business. If they choice to not stock "porn" then so be it, and people will not shop there? Not likely. I suspect many do not go to the PX/BX to buy "porn", even if some what should be called "porn" are not called that, such as many of the glamour mags, but ... Like the old discussion about Paparazzi, and who was at fault? Well, its the customers fault, since they are the ones who buy the mags that cause such feeding frenzy needs to know every detail of some celebs life (Princess Di for example). So anyone writing a letter to AAFES saying why or why not bring about the end of stocking of such "porn" magazines? So if you all want "porn" mags, then subscribe to them directly, and then see if the APO and like system will forward them to you? And then complain about being banned? Plain brown wrappers and all? Mike Male, so writing things from the male perspective, so I expect the female perspective of some of my other comments, to be different, or oddly the same but about men! (they are players as well!). |

CLBurns,
Seriously, I know first hand the loneliness that a man and his wife go through. It isn't easy. Yes, men and women are sometimes approached by the opposite sex without consideration to marriage or General Order 1, or the UCMJ, or what is just moral right and decent. I had the good fortune to have email access almost every night, or at least a quick call at the AT&T Center. My wife sent me things that I probably could have gotten faster and cheaper at the local FOB exchange, but it meant a lot for her to pack them for me, and just as much for me to receive them from her. My goodies were usually food, coffee, and mementos; another man's might include a girl mag. Personally, I don't look at them, but if a man gets them from his wife, then so be it. The worst case scenario for people who look at these things is that they may not be able to buy them at AAFES. |

The people who think porn is "evil" are the same prudes who used to think comic books were "evil."

On the subject of rape, no one deserves it, but we often do over do things, and not make good decisions and put our selves at risk. Sometimes out of ignorance, such as persons who seem to think a good relationship is an abusive one.
Why we have classes in communication, to make sure both parties know what they want, as well as know the dangers of miscommunication. For me, it was having some gal thinking I wanted more, and then finding out she told everyone we was "Getting married", but ... Did I tease her, or lie to her, or just miscommunicate or .. yes, I got sex, but ... Also putting one self in a position where the chance of being abused/molested/raped. Such as getting drunk, and not having a back up plan. Such as money in a shoe for a cab fare, and other pre-planned things just in case.. Yes, being abused/raped by your boss is not good. Be it a male boss, female one, or male on male, or female on female. Why we have sexual harrassment and like training. Abuse of power. I have known women who did not know they was pushing buttons they should not push, such as pushing buttons on their boy friend who had anger, jealousy issues, or she did it out of the thrill or for some form of self empowerment? Also known gals who would not listen, thinking they could control things, and then sadly seen them at the ER, all beat up, and then some even go back to the guy. Same goes for guys who need to WALK AWAY, cause they are being manipulated!! (goes both ways). Ignorance and blind giving over authority, such as a priest or like person use their position and your naivity to take advantage. Dated a gal, who I hope she liked the idea of a 19yo man, dating her, even if not for long, she was 35, and had just gotten out of a bad relationship. Men can be such demons and controlling, but so can women!? "you must love me, or I will keep our baby away from you!". Sadly also seen women who use Domestic Violence to control him. He says NO, she calls the cops, even if nothing is going on! But he was a fool for staying with her!! Or just did not expect anything better? But that was how my mommy treated me? or Daddy or ... But a gal going to a bar, and then getting drunk, and then expecting the guy to accept her "NO" can be putting her self in danger, and pushing buttons she should not go near!! The fun of danger. But like going to a Frat party, yes you plan to have nothing happy, but last I checked Frat parties are still notorious for wild things to include alcohol and worse? So no one deserves being raped, be they women or male, but sometimes we need to be more aware of the dangers we put ourselves in, and not go there, or .... will see.. "Leaving the bus, enter the feeding pool". So plan ahead, go with trustworthy friends, and come back well, happy, and alive!! Like the old action word (?) when the game is getting dangerous!! Say it and have a plan to get out!! Mike Alaska Sexual abuse can be male on male. Talk to the VA if you have been abused!? |

I'm a navy wife, and as far as I'm concerned the men/women have the right to buy and read/look at whatever magazine makes them happy. As for the men who would take away a magazine due to nudity is beyond me, come on you take the men/women away from there loved ones, is that not enough punishment. Now you say that they cannot look at a magazine cause it has pictures of naked men/women in them, so exactly how are they supposed to stay faithful to there loved ones when they cannot relieve themselves? (Not intended to offend anyone but come on its the truth) You through men to shower with other men and vice versa women shower with other women yet you say they cant look at a nudity magazine without thoughts of sexual violence someone has not done there homework there

We all understand, Nanjing. What some of us think is bogus is that these magazines are - arbitrarily, and for pathetic reasons - going to be removed from the magazine rack.

U.S. Rep. Paul Broun, R-Ga.
is obviously a MORON to think that this is an issue that needs to be addressed right now. How about Rep. Broun go up D.C. and help his fellow republicans explain to me why we went to war without proper planning on what we were going to do when we got there. |

I didn't get to read all 20 pages here, so i may have missed something. I am retired military female and let me tell you, I have always felt awkward seeing a guy buy one of those mags. We would always exchange glances and I never knew who was more embarrassed. However, it's the kiddie porn and other sick stuff that lead to attacks. this soft stuff as they call it only leads to blindness (LOL) and high hopes. No real female really looks like any of those girls...just FYI guys. I never felt comfortable 'knowing" the guys were off taking care of it themselves. Mayb they should just sellthem in the barbershop or something...

This is simply ridiculous. If looking at a magazine that contains nudity causes someone to sexually assault another person, then I would like to know why EVERYONE who has ever looked at a magazine that contains nudity has not sexually assaulted someone.
You can use the argument that it is disrespectful to women or men for that matter. The bottom line is that it is adults that choose to pose that way for money and it is adults that choose to spend money to purchase those magazines. It all boils down to choice. If you think it is offensive, choose not to purchase it. If it is something you would like to look at, choose to purchase it. It's that simple and it isn't anyone else's business which choice you make. |

I don't know. Perhaps more people complained than didn't complain. Perhaps there was an incident of minors getting them out of the store, or maybe the Congressman took up the issue on his own; though I am certain the catalyst of action happened from within the military. As you know, I am personally against pornography. I even wear my Christianity on my sleeve when someone makes an inquiry of my faith; however, I always thought it better to live, best that I can in difficult times, by Christian standards and set a quiet example to others, than to legislate moral behavior. Perhaps a compromise will be suggested and the magazines will be kept behind the counter instead of the top shelf on the magazine rack. Though I think pornography as a problem, I see a bigger problem with Navy and Marine personnel killing and maiming themselves in automobile and motorcycle accidents due to irresponsible drinking as a bigger problem than criminal sexual conduct due to pornography. I see military families who make better salaries than ever before, and certainly more than their twenty two year old civilian counterparts, declaring bankruptcies, going into debt over material and entertainment spending, and running around on their spouses. A young Marine can train a company of recruits, field strip and service an M-242, or maintain a 7-ton truck or F-18 Hornet, but can’t balance his check book and be faithful to his wife. That is what I see in the military community that I live in. Why do we look at one problem and not the total package? I think we owe our military personnel more than they have been getting, and I don’t just mean more money and benefits. Just a thought. This message has been edited. Last edited by: Nanjing, |

But the point is that it isn't AAFES that doesn't want to sell them it's some Bureaucrat somewhere. If they can tell AAFES what to sell then it's just a matter of time until they tell the communities around bases that they can't sell 'put your favorite banned item here' to GI's. I can understand keeping the boys out of the whore houses in Korea or the 'massage parlors' where they get happy endings or even a haircut where you get a suprise under your cape...you all know it happens. That is just setting yourself up for an STD or worse. But a magazine? COME ON ALREADY!!! Next you are going to try to tell me I can't use my mind to fantasize and masterbate. SHEESH!! |
