I've been a member of VFW in SC since 1969, my 1st tour in Nam. My dear old Dad signed me up and I've kept my association for 38 years. My Dad was a post commander, state commander and served on numerous national committees. He was also our county VSO. An ex-POW, WWII, he was a true veterans' advocate and genuinly cared and supported the vets. After my two combat tours; like many others I became very disallusioned with the whole gov't/politics thing. I knew I had changed and had some problems but like most, I perservered and did OK. I am 90% service connected and recently asked for a VFW VSO to represent me in filing for unemployment due to 70% rating for PTSD, 10% knee injury, 20% SC diabetes and recently severe back injury, vascular disease and so on ... the short story; the VFW Service Officer assigned to me wouldn't even return a phone call. I wrote a complaint to the Regional Office in Columbia SC and some "VFW politician wannabe" basically told me if I don't like there "level of service" I was more than welcome to seek assistance from another organization. This after years of donations, PAC contributions and support !!! I also belong to DAV, VVA, American Legion etc etc .... so guess I now have to find another "Service Officer" to file the most important claim ever. It's just sickening how these people can spend millions of dollars begging for dollars; I now REALLY wonder where it all goes? I will remain a member out of respect to my Dad; but forget anymore donations, PAC contributions or another nickle from me. So anyone considering a VFW membership; you are forewarned. Disgruntled grunt.

Welcome to In the News.
Here we begin discussion with a link or a direct reference to a story in the news. Take a moment and look at some of the existing beginning threads, the Read and Heed and TOS of this site for more information. It's a good idea to introduce your military affiliation for the benefit of the more experienced posters to get things going.
