Hopefully his next character portrayal may be better than his latest portrayal of Colonel Von Stauffenberg in "Valkyrie".

And somehow I can't imagine "Maverick" flying a P40 fighter with Nationalist Chinese markings on it, dodging and diving against Zero fighters.

And no I don't regularly go the link below; it was passed on to me. Roll Eyes

quote:
The movie is under the direction of Mission Impossible II guy John Woo (pictured above). The screenplay was written by Christopher McQuarrie, who co-wrote Valkyrie, so this teams Tom up with two very familiar faces.

The photo above is of Cruise and Woo from 2000 when they were promoting “Mission Impossible 2” in Taipei.

Here’s what John Woo told ComingSoon about “Flying Tigers”:

It’s based on a true story in WWII, about a group of American volunteer fighter pilots who worked with the Chinese Air Force fighting with the Japanese and they won the war. Also, it’s the story of Clair Chennault, and they did a great contribution for the Chinese, and the Chinese people love and respect them. The whole story is about a friendship between a Chinese and an American and they worked together.”

My guess is that this reunion of Woo, McQuarrie and Cruise is a definite possibility!

Hell I cant imagine this will be released in the Peoples Republic, all those Nationalist roundels on the P-40's.

It would be nice to get an Accurate portrayal of the Tigers compared to the propaganda piece the Duke made in 42

Not a Tom Cruise fan. Did enjoy Top Gun despite its inaccuracies...

If they are playing with the "Flying Tigers," considering today's computer graphic technology, and true adventures they have to chose from, I hope they do the Group real justice, and not junk it up like Pearl Harbor - but probably will. Roll Eyes

Gunny,

Isn't "The Pacific" a series that will only show on HBO? Well I hope you enjoy it when it finally comes out.

At least in Duke's movie, they used real P-40s. Try to find any today to fit the bill. Only two I know of are in flying condition, one at the Smithsonian and the other at Wright-Patterson. Sounds like another animated generated remake of things no longer available.
Actually, I've had enough of Cruise.

Tom Cruise can't play an Air Force Ace due to the Don't Ask/Don't Tell policy currently in place.

I saw a flyable P-40 at the annual NAS Pt. Mugu air show back in the mid eighties...

An even bigger problem then would be finding flyable KI-43 Oscar that the Japanese Army flew during WWII. But with special effects, this should not be a problem.

The biggest error in the Duke's film was the implication that the AVG was flying combat missions for weeks, if not months before Pearl Harbor. The movie ends with the men hearing about the attack on the radio.

At least with the special effects we don't have to worry about valuable antiques being chewed up to make movies.

You'd think the guy would overdose himself on something already, how about a overdose of caulk??? I think that'll do the trick.

He's a leading man but not in the movies.

If he's not gay then he should be or will be soon, it's his destiny.

No doubt...When he, as LCDR Duke E. Gifford, surfaced his boat in Operation Pacific ('51) and fought like a man- on the surface- it brought tears to my eyes! Big Grin
