this article is incorrect the protector is being used by the us coast gaurd and is curently doing patrols of the san francisco bay, and was launched from the BAE branch based in El Cahon Cal.
It is imperative that we always be on the leading edge of the learning curve on these fast evolving technologies, or we'll soon find ourselves behind the "8 Ball" on our vital defensive fronts. You can be very sure that our radical enemies are not asleep at the wheel on this....
And the Us has a equivalent to the sgr a1 that is mounted on humvee and is currently in experimental phase then the U.S has mutliple alternatives to the heron the most common being the global hawk and the predator.
If I had to guess, most if not all of the technology of these weapon systems came from US. Wake up America, you are gona be way behind the rest of the world!
"Kamikaze" is the term used for the Japanese suicide pilots of WWII. They flew airplanes loaded with TNT at our (U.S.) ships in a last ditch effort to fend off the Navy and Marines from reaching their inner sanctum of islands.
The term "kamikaze drone" means the same thing (although it was described in the article as well). They would produce a drone full of explosives that would loiter above the battlefield looking for a target.
Think of an artillery piece that could hover around until it found something to attack.
This article is a bit ridiculous....at least in the "shock value" of the title. We haven't even hit the tip of the iceberg on drone capabilities in the U.S.
There are so many drones in development right now that it would put this list of ho-hum UCAVs to shame!
Good article for the review of other countries developing drones, but way off-base in concept.
