If a tree falls in a forest and lands on a politician, even if you can't hear the tree or the screams, I'll bet you'd at least hear the applause. Paul Tindale
Ugh! Do they have different looking blank ammunition than we do? And, do they make theirs the same weight as ball ammunition? Seems someone need to go back to basic training and get a refresher course in munitions.

Blank ammunition has a different look and weight. An Army rookie won't confuse them with live ammo ! The shooter was an experimented para with few years of servicing and selection for that commando unit is very competitive. Also, there're very strong rules for weapons and ammunition. It's hard to understand how that **** happened... But, what could be if not a tragic mistake.
Went over there to save them twice in the past century...looks like we should go over there and save the "Frogs" from themselves in this one. What a damn shame, a soldier with any training can tell the difference between a clip of blanks and a clip of ball rounds!

lol- lol- lol... Don't need to make a big sentence for the "frogs". I agree with you, that's a damn shame but **** happened in army training, even in US I suppose.
This does happen from time to time. Back at Stewart in 2002 we did a LFX and just prior to the Blank run a joe came to his Squid leader and showed him a Ball round in his mag.
we had to download all the mags then and there. 730+ mags minutes before it was to kick off. then reloaded in front of the range saftey NCO

Reminiscent of an incident in a Civil War Cavalry reenactment where amid all the blanks was a ball round that unhorsed one of the participants.
Now that's hard to do considering most of the cap and ball pistols used were hand-loaded with black powder and sealed with a wax plug. Somebody was very, very negligent, and somebody else was very lucky - and has a good 'war story'.
The GCP is part of the Regiment but operate under his own chain of command. They follow the same basic rules that the regular unit but I believe, "not as the same level". The shooter is a 28 years old sergeant. He was keeping a magazine with live ammo, he mixed it up during the "show".
Land Forces Commander, General Cuche had to resigned. He's the first on the list... President Sarko wants to save his *** from a new pathetic public opinion poll result. Not only he created big waves and disappointment inside the Army with his new Defense strategy, is now OVER reacting and create even more troubles.
Correct me if I'm wrong, but if he had checked the round/clip whatever, before he started firing, there would be no mistaking live ammo for blank ammo, right? Especially for a soldier who's been serving 7-8 years?
Sounds like someone didn't run through the safety protocols before hand... tsk tsk. I hope everyone turns out okay.
What I believe... After a shooting practice, the guy kept a live ammo mag in his tactical vest. There's come the public show. During the action, wrong pouch and... Tragic mistake but I don't want to blame the soldier. As I said, that small unit is "kinda work on his own" and will handle safety protocol itself. They suppose to be "the best men" of the Regiment...
