Wanna bet there'd be some 'cutting and running' if the Iraqis said 'NO' to the proposed security agreement?

Is this the "free and democratic Iraq" this country has been fighting for? I for one hope this story is bogus though it does confirm my suspicions. Need a point of reference on the ideology behind this agreement? http://rightweb.irc-online.org/profile/1535.html
Sorry for the partisan website, unfortunately it seems the actual group neglected to pay their web hosting bill: www.newamericancentury.org/.
Probably shifting their operation to the UAE.

Sounds like the U.S. is looking out for its interests in the region. If memory serves that is kinda what state departments do.

I just hope the agreement is not so one sided that it undermines the Iraqi government.

If it is written as the article states…I’d say it will not only undermine the current Iraqi government, it will destroy support among Iraqis. Let’s assume something just for the sake of argument. Let’s assume the Iraqi people are not sub-human. Let’s assume they have some collective pride. Now let’s assume the tables were turned. Iraq invaded and occupies the United States of America. The Iraqi government attempts to force the US government to sign an agreement that would allow Iraq to maintain forces in the US forever, at 50 Iraqi military bases throughout the United States. In addition they want to be able to arrest and detain Americans at will. Now add insult to injury, they want the US government to agree to all this and have no recourse for abuses of power or criminal acts. Iraqi service personnel AND CONTRACTORS not subject or answerable to US law.
How would you react LT? Hearts and minds…I think not.

It's one thing to find yourself in the middle of a civil way, it's quite another to be the object of a full-scale uprising.
