Colin Powell, one of President Obama's most prominent Republican supporters, expressed concern Friday that the president's ambitious blitz of costly initiatives may be enlarging the size of government and the federal debt too much.

"I'm concerned at the number of programs that are being presented, the bills associated with these programs and the additional government that will be needed to execute them," Mr. Powell said in an excerpt of an interview with CNN's John King, released by the network Friday morning.

I'm not concerned about the number of programs; rebuilding our country, removing the expense of HMO and welfare health care has been long overdue. What I am concerned about is the Way these programs are being carried out.

Health care which is a giveaway to the HMO's, A stimulous program which mostly consists of grants to States, without a National focus, etc, etc.

Nor (and considering my above criticism) is he being honest in selling us these programs. Instead of leading us into the future, he is trying to manipulate us into the future.

Anyone whose reads FDR's fireside chats and speeches to the American Public will immediately be struck by the difference.

Health Care, Cap and Trade, Sin tax, the complexity is not difficult to figure. More people (well under $250,000 promised) will be paying more taxes for more government. Barney Franks wants to spend the interest from the money that was loaned to bailout the Banks on his (again) neighborhood betterment programs, (including Acorn) putting the same people back into the same houses with less interest.

General Powell is not atoning for past sins, he's just looking forward to 2012. With no chance of total
reversal metamorphosis returning into a conservative he may be ask to write a book of being Benedict Arnold II.

Since you ask ... from the time I learned that when Armitage reported to Powell that he was the Plame leaker ... Powell withheld that information from President Bush.

Not necessarily. He just thinks that somebody in this administration might give him a listen. The only talking the 'old boys' would want him to do is scripted for him by his 'betters'.

Have you seen the 'General Powell' lawn jockeys yet? understand they're under clearance to make room for the 'Obama' model. Arf, Arf, Arf - it's a laff a minit!

He's still a republican.

I really think that if everybody would just take a deep breath and sit down, drink a Pepsi or have a cold beer and just chill everything will be all right. The Red Sox are still selling out their baseball stadium, 17,500 people are going to Michael Jackson's funeral, NK is firing missiles into the ocean killing fish, the lines at Disney world are still long, foot ball season will soon be here, our troops are still getting killed overseas, unemployment is a little high but will soon even out. Barney Frank is back in the condo market, Pelosi is still visiting our troops for one day and spending 5 on vacation, we only have to pay something like 867 Billion in interest a year for our national debt, and the republicans still don't have a serious contender for the 2012 election. So sit back and enjoy the moment and blame everything on Bush. Our politicians are.

I never liked Bush. But, even still, I find it quite hilarious when any Democratic member of Congress uses the line "when we inherited this problem". No, dipstick, you did not inherit a problem if you were part of the problem. If you were a member of the Congress before the problem, during the onset of the problem and in the midst of the problem, how in the hell could you possibly inherit the problem? Is Congress not the one that handles the money?

Gosh I hate politicians. But, what I hate worse is people who cannot accept responsibility for their own screwups.

I know I've taken exception to some of your comments elsewhere ... but I'll drink to the above ... well said.

Roger that...it's 'W's fault!

The heading is very mis-informative (of course) How is this "2nd thoughts" when he said he was concerned (just like everyone on the planet is). I bet if you asked Powell Straight up he will tell you he made the right decision and will stand by that decision. More Smoke and mirrors.
