Military.com regulars should be aware of a new military.com policy of omitting front-page links to the discussion groups.

Evidently, some advertiser was upset. But not as upset as the military.com regulars.

Regardless of your politics, this change is bad for everyone.

IMHO, this policy change represents a massive, forced, dumbing-down of the entire military.com community. If we quietly tolerate it, there will be a whole lot more of it.

That's my 2¢.

Why are both your links to "Dempsey To Succeed Fallon at CentCom"?
That does not seem to have anything to do with your topic.

I will unsubscribe from my usual subscriptions and get my news from other sources. Since the site is advertiser supported I won't look at their pages that I do not like their changes.
If they quit this forum I do not need military.com anyway.

Since the stories come from other sources, just cut-n-paste from the original source, or provide the link to the original source. That should really piss off the advertisers, since the posted link will direct readers away from where they are advertising.

So how to get word to lot of folks to give input on the problem?

My 2 cents is that the people who are working hard on developing useful editorial copy are doing the best that they can without any undue influence from advertisers that I am aware of.

Of course anyone can post a credible news source here. The editorial people are doing what they can to get the best editorial stories up for the benefit of the military community.

Thanks.

Craig, scroll down the page and you will see what they did to the format, it really stinks!

And I submit the editorial people are doing just fine. It is whoever made the brain-dead decision to eliminate news links to ITN (and other forums) from their copy and add a comment capability below the articles ... that are arguably ITN material ... that, IMHO, have porked the rosebush. The below-article commenting is inconvenient, limited, and a strain on the eyes. All that has been accomplished is to split (or lose part of) the contributing members on any given story.

Great planning ... and thanks to all for the "heads up" from military.com on the changes before they were implemented. Roll Eyes

I guess you don't. I also guess that we the user community is just expected to shut-up, read the material and patrionize the advertisers.

This site has been going down the drain ever since MonsterBoards acquired Military Advantage.

Was meant to look at folks b*tching about the change.
I'd already looked at a few pages of that. What I really noticed was that the most were just nice little sheeple to carry on and post as if that was the format all along.
It would make better sense to me to add to TOS to forbid posting of whole articles. Since it is advertising that pays the way there should be some concessions to it.
But I gather that advertisers pay-per-view rather than actually sponsoring the site.
I dunno - if advertisers get to dictate format and content then only way the place is apt to go is downhill.

I'd expect some bozos to like the new format the more since it is more difficult to carry on discussion/debate/argument.
I think the greedy usually manage to shoot selves in foot though. I'd expect the new format is going to result in less seeing the advertising than before. - Though there is quite a number of folks who just contentedly carry on posting their opinions without thought nor care what they support.

I canceled from The Early Brief and might have gotten carried away by canceling every other subscription. They make it easy with a box to check at bottom of page to cancel everything.
I find my way to most threads from The Early Brief which takes me to their main page. Things I follow up I have sent email and that does link direct to discussion rather than the news page.
Myself is certainly not going to go to extra work to read a lot of blog BS that is not much conducive to interaction. None of it is worth the effort it would take to keep up with what is going on and what new posts might say from time to time. I've seen a lot of sites with that format and might have looked at what people had to say that day and then closed the page and not looked at anything else about the site anymore. I have been surprised at the number of dolts who would go to the work to subscribe so they can post their silly opinions to such things.

This butt sucking outfit could have at least offered the membership some explanation what is going on.

I don't like the change but frankly didn't notice that it had happened until you pointed it out. I generally find stories before they get posted by mil.com on news threads anyway, so I am not severely put out.

I do refuse to use the new format comment style. Provided they retain the ability to post and/or link in the old format, I am can live with it. If they dump it, I am going to be posting, and visiting, much less often, which would be a shame. Cool

I'm with Sunliner.. I think the new format sux.. I have a hard time even using a computer without hurting myself or my loved ones, and Windows Vista has exacerbated my problems.. this new format may be the proverbial bridge too far...

If they dump this or some of these forums I would expect there to be very many folks dump the whole site and they wind up with less folks seeing the adds.

I can't seem to find any way to contact the hierarchy of this site. Can anyone tell me where the link is on the main page or did they get rid of it when they changed the style? I for one would like to comment to them directly. If they decide to eliminate the forums altogether somebody please E-mail me at g_suchey@yahoo.com and please let me know what the next best thing is.

I went and joined another site, but I don't think I will do much with it. I got on this one, because it was something to do while up late due to wife's illness, but she is doing great now and I don't have the gumption to just sit and post for the heck of and I'm not used to the other sites format, like I was to this ones previous one. So I guess I'll be dropping off for a while, E-mail sometimes and I will answer, that goes for all of you out there...

The past couple days, trying to find the "In the News" forum was like looking for a needle in the haystack. So, last night I finally found it and bookmarked it in my browser. I just used it to get here immediately. Try:
