WASHINGTON (AP) - An early progress report on President Barack Obama's economic recovery plan overstates by thousands the number of jobs created or saved through the stimulus program, a mistake that White House officials promise will be corrected in future reports.

The government's first accounting of jobs tied to the $787 billion stimulus program claimed more than 30,000 positions paid for with recovery money. But that figure is overstated by least 5,000 jobs, according to an Associated Press review of a sample of stimulus contracts.

The AP review found some counts were more than 10 times as high as the actual number of jobs; some jobs credited to the stimulus program were counted two and sometimes more than four times; and other jobs were credited to stimulus spending when none was produced.

Sorry koolaide drinkers, but here's more evidence of the "accounting tricks" used by the Obama Administration. One can only imagine the accounting tricks being used to ram government run healthcare down our throats.

The government doesn't create any jobs other than government jobs anyway. I wonder how fuzzy their math is regarding jobs "saved"...?

Now you've done it, Keg. No Christmas card from the White House for you this year. In fact, I'm betting none of the Dems/Libs will invite you unless you "Reform"

The Kool-Aide drinkers will try to 'shoot this down' I see the truth clear as a bell. I even feel sorry for the un-employed through no fault of their own. The AP actually did their job?? I'm shocked. On Roger's post he asked "where are the Libs?" Then Ka-Boomb...there they were. Well guess you, Roger, and me are 'off' the X-mas list...Boo Hoo!

but...but...but I thought President Obama said he was going to create 4,000,000save or create 3,000,000 jobs when he got elected. Instead we have lost 4,000,000 jobs since he took office and the number lost will easily reach 7.5 million by next summer.
Michigan's governor was estatic about the 30,000 new "green" jobs that would be created over the next 10 years while failing to mention that Michigan has lost nearly 3,000,000 jobs just since she has been governor. Hell, with the tax increases she has added to Michigan residents since taking office there could have already been 200,000 jobs created with that money.
If I had 787 billion bucks i could have created 4 million good paying jobs for the next 30 years with health insurance included. Bet our federal government wont even come close. and thats doing exactly what the federal government does, offering no goods or services and just having the employees show up and sit around all day taking breaks and using the company computers for personal use. Gee, what a bargain. Even at the inflated number of 30,000 jobs the cost is a mere $26,233,333.33 per job...and they claim government is inefficient!

Lets see if I can play lib and attack the poster, since the title is usually attacked for honesty even though it was pulled from the article.

Hey Keg once again you misrepresented what the article was about by using a bogus title!

It should read: 'Stimulus Jobs Lied About by Thousands'

I know better ... My business, which depends heavily on the OEM and aftermarket automotive sector, has increased considerably since the stimulus and especially the Cash for Clunkers programs, as did the business of the company/clients I deal with on a daily basis. As I said, "I know better." Fact is, there has never been a recession where in it's initial stages coming out of it, that jobs are always the last to catch up with recovery. I'm quite sure in the next 7+ yrs of President Obama's term(s), the end result will be a booming economy. It has to. The Republicans screwed it up so bad, the economy can only go forward.

Wow Flanker, are you ever clever. I'll bet you must have been the most clever little boy growing up. Perhaps you should, and try posting to the subject for once. Enough of your juvenile put downs. This is an adult forum.

So were you able to come up with that little piece all by yourself or did you have to wait for someone from the DNC to tell you what to say?

As for this comment...
quote:

If you sell auto parts and supplies it would be logical that your business is doing well. Because of the recession people are doing more of their own maintenance, keeping their cars longer and therefore must maintain them and repair them. Auto shops that deal with cars no longer under warranty have also seen a small increase as people keep their cars longer.
No brainer there but you will try and twist it to suit your Messiah's image.
If the economy improves it will be in SPITE of obama and not due to him.

Even CBS is saying the White House is fudging stimulus jobs numbers:

quote:
When Katie Couric and the folks at CBS start doubting what the Administration says about how effective February's economic stimulus package was, you know President Obama is in trouble.

Consider that on Thursday's CBS "Evening News," Chip Reid began a segment with the following startling statement about a jobs report card to be released by the White House Friday:

Well, Katie, that report is going to claim that the stimulus has already created or saved hundreds of thousands of jobs, but if the administration`s first effort at counting stimulus jobs is any guide, tomorrow`s numbers could be hard to believe.

Readers are advised to make sure youngsters are out of the room, for watching Katie and the Gang say the White House might be fudging numbers could be way too frightening for minors.
