ummmm, so, Dragon Skin armor works as long as the bullets are shot in specific spots on the armor?
the extra 20 pounds should put Dragon Skin off the table anyway. i don't know much, but, i know that's way to much extra weight.

The Army is FULL OF S--T. They know this armor works better than the SAPI Plate crap they pass on to us. Remember guys these are the same people who opted for the ACU instead of the CRYE pattern. Whey? Because it was better and more versatile. A complete lie I might add. Defeating a grenade on television is a wonderful piece of special effects trickery. If you're referring to the 'demonstration' on Future Weapons, all it showed was no penetration of the area in immediate contact with the grenade. It didn't show penetration to limbs or head, it didn't give any indication of the backface deformation generated in the explosion and it didn't take into account any of the non-ballistic injury mechanisms inherent in an explosion.
In Vietnam, there were documented instances of a loaded rucksack defeating an M67 (maybe they were still M33 back then???). Before I take anything I see on television on faith, I want to see the science behind it.
Futureweapons, Weaponology and everything else on the History, Military, Discovery, Science and whatever else channels are all commercial programs being shown in a commercial, home market. Their purpose is to sell advertising time to their customers, not to teach about ordnance. It's a TV show, it's not science.

It looks like Dragonskin finally got tested against Army standards and flunked. Badly.
"You've seen dragonskin work with your own eyes". What do you want, a cookie? I (and a hell of lot of soldiers) have seen ESAPI work. "I've seen it work" is not an excuse for the Army to drop IBA/ESPAI for a vest with twice the weight and 6 times the cost, that, at best, only workes under controlled conditions in a lab. Holy crap, did you read the test results? Those super-whooptie scales DELAMINATE AND FALL APART when they get hot. And, in case you missed it, Iraq gets hot. 140 degrees (measured in a shop) hot.
As far as I can tell, the "SIRS" you lambast just saved Joe from an expensive gimmick that doesn't stand up to military use.

Even im a troll and this guy is getting on my last wort. Stick to the subject-the real soldiers need real role models. so, you think that politics is getting in the way of proper tech for the soldiers and that they lied because of financial reasons-alot of fiscal problems are occuring because of the pressure for pulling out. I understand the reason that we need to finish what we started, Bush will not let up (I dont know if that is a problem), so the Democrats are financially scouring the budget-undermining and backstabbing. Having done a tour in a military test and evaluation command I can tell you it’s not about the best equipment but who has the best lobbyist working for them.
We spent a year and a half testing a piece of crap system. The evaluation officer passed it. As soon as he left the command and became a civilian it had to be retested from the start. Some reps from the company showed up to ask why it was being revaluated and why the orders to purchase had been put on hold.
Guess who was now working for that company and was one of those representatives from the company? You guessed it the original evaluation officer.
Plus It seems because of the change over politically-focus seems to be the key, but is taking vital funds to punish a decision the answer? I dont think it is fair to take vital experiments and throw them away, but focus is important.
