Gary Owen! I heard that name many times when I was in the 1st Cav Div. Wasn't he in Charlie Company 2/7? (just joking now) |

That is pretty cool. Did not know that such a toy could be use to help detect tripwires.

What was the problem with shipping silly string? As long as it works. I sent my grandsons helmet liners. The government was a year behind me..
The soldiers needed them, too many young men were comeing home brain dead because their heads would bounce against the helmets. The liners fixed that. |

Apparently optimism is not your forte. Why is it the glass always seems to be half-empty, Dan? You can buy Silly String all day long at the Dollar Store for about 90 cents a can and any loyal American manufacturer would probably be happy to offer it at a reduced price for the troops. |

The Shepard protects the Lamb. The Lamb sometimes doesn't know why ; but the Shepard is gracious enough to understand. The flock sometimes misunderstands the good deeds and intentions of the dog. The dog is an extention of the masters will. The flock of sheep do not understand the mission of the sheep dog. They think the service work of the dog is the trouble. The dog is the advocate guardian for the flock. Faith is trust in someone or in something when we do not completely understand. We should be ever faithful to our troops because they are like our shepard dogs ( Mans best friend ) for America. It is by giving that we recieve. Giving and doing good deeds for our troops promotes good health and an increased sense of well being. Giving has healing power. My family still had some E bonds decades after WWII. Momma gave her bicycle for salvage for the war effort. Brazils economy really took off when they rolled over and revalued their currency. Brazil imports zero ( a big fat ZERO ) barrels of oil per day. Brazil relies on their sugar cane plants for ethanol. Brazil has nuclear power ( a major President Bush push project for America ). America will come out swingin like Rocky Balboa when the green energy programs sky rocket off. Our currency will return with investors encouraged with bargains prices galore. Our warrior shepards are fighting the wolves off. U can never buy enough time in business. |

And Marines say civilians are "useless"...
My hats off to this lady for putting the effort into getting the stuff shipped ASAP! Let's just hope the insurgents don't get all high tech on our asses with some motion-triggered devices, such as those used on flood lights or home alarm systems. Then again, simply throwing something into the room before you enter it would trigger the device and diffuse that situation real quick Anyway, good job lady! |

You know they have to shipped that stuff to stores across the country all the time. I never heard of using silly string that way, but glad that the people involved getting it to Iraq did not give up.

I agree with Gunsmoke. It has taken far too long for it to reach them. 80 thousand cans is nothing to a ship. the DOD could have stepped up and expedited it

I was in military purchasing for 8 years & handled quality control for shipments on military airlift as an additional duty. There is no reason that this could not have been in the hands of the troops within 2 months max of a simple, but priority, requisition being processed in a timely matter. If we lost even one casualty because it was not done, someone definitely dropped the ball.

Amazing, we can ship tons of ammunition and explosives to our troops, but we can ship them silly string in a aerosol can...because its DANGEROUS GOODS...Again, what country is this?

Interesting article. I have been providing silly string for school drives for vets for sometime. I've had to explain the silly string (and certain other articles) to the teachers several times. Unless the kids used the silly string and was never shipped I have yet to hear of a problem shipping.

Prob. beucase they were trying to use UPS or Fedex global. You cant ship that stuff on either carrier by air.

Since the product can be bought, cheaply, at most any novelty store, the DoD would not want anything to do with so simple a tool. Can't farm out to some non-bid contractor for the big bucks.
