Regardless of whether this story is true or not(doesnt seem likely, huh?)the fact still remains is 2008 is going to set another record for military suicides. Ya damn well better do whatever it takes to care for the troops even if it means a welfare mom and her pups go hungry.
Take care of the givers before the takers get a dime.

Wel they DO hold onto power by keeping as many of their people ignorant and illiterate as they can. Not in the cities, but in the countryside, which is where there power lies. The demostration we see on T.V. are populated by the illiterate and semi-literate country folk that were bused in for that purpose and then sent home with a little cash reward for their cooperation. Or so say my Persian inlaws.

As far as I have been able to ascertain, this "story" originated on Iranian "Press TV" and has been perpetuated in cyberspace, primarily by Islamic sources. So far, every report I have seen about a "57th Unit of Airborne" says that it isn't presently active and is certainly not in Iraq. That paragon of journalistic integrity, al Jazeera, carried the story in all its breathless ludicrousness, so I'm going to take it with a grain of salt, please.

As for the assertion that U. S. service personnel do not commit mass suicide, that may or may not be true. How can you prove a negative? It may not have happened yet. Or it may not have been reported. However, although I agree it is unlikely, as most suicides are solitary affairs, unless the perpetrator wants to take others along by also committing murder, I don't think the possibility of that happening can be totally ruled out. Who knows what dire circumstances may push people over the edge? It happens too often with over-stressed individuals. How can we rule out the possibility of it happening collectively under the pressure of terrible events.
