Friend or Foe?

For the Democrats, China -- and its massive trade imbalance with the United States -- has emerged as a favorite parable about the dangers of globalization, especially when this adversary/ally holds more than $400 billion in U.S. Treasuries.

If a tree falls in a forest and lands on a politician, even if you can't hear the tree or the screams, I'll bet you'd at least hear the applause.

Hummmm! Glass half full or empty? Each looks at this giant through different ends of the spyglass. Banker? Business Partner? Endless consumer market? Wow! Of note, is the below quote. Notice anything interesting?

“Bush officials such as Paulson have nudged the country's leaders to build safety nets such as health care, pensions and unemployment help so that Chinese citizens feel less need to hoard savings and more desire to gobble up (preferably American) consumer goods.!”

Health care, pension, and unemployment help!! Wonder if the Chinese will recommend that to our government in an order for us to “gobble up” Chinese goods??? Wink Cool

Would be a low-return endeavor though ... we are hardly noted for hoarding our savings (such as they aren't) in the first place ... and we are already gobbling!
