"Bowlers have BIG balls!"

Our new CINC didn't have time to attend this Ball, but check out the balls below that he made time to attend. This is the kind of respect we can expect towards our military by the new Administration...hope and change...

quote:
According to TSO who was at the “Salute to Heroes Inaugural Ball”, this newly sworn-in President for the first time in 56 years blew off the ball (that’s 14 Inaugurations).

Some background on the ball:

The American Legion sponsors the ball, which recognizes recipients of Medal of Honor, the nation’s highest military award. It started in 1953 for President Dwight D. Eisenhower’s first inauguration.

Event co-sponsors include 13 other veterans service organizations, among them the Military Order of the Purple Heart and the Paralyzed Veterans of America.

So where was our new President instead of honoring Medal of Honor recipients who by some miracle are still alive? According to Huffington Post, this was his schedule for Inaugural celebrations;

Later that day, the Presidential Inaugural Committee will host 10 official inaugural balls:
Neighborhood Inaugural Ball at the Washington Convention Center.
Obama Home States (Illinois and Hawaii) Inaugural Ball at the Washington Convention Center.
Biden Home States (Pennsylvania and Delaware) Inaugural Ball at the Washington Convention Center.
Midwest Inaugural Ball at the Washington Convention Center.
Mid-Atlantic Inaugural Ball at the Washington Convention Center.
Western Inaugural Ball at the Washington Convention Center.
Commander in Chief’s Ball at the National Building Museum.
Southern Inaugural Ball at the National Guard Armory.
Eastern Inaugural Ball at Union Station.
Youth Inaugural Ball at the Washington Hilton.
Unofficial balls include:
Congressional Black Caucus Inaugural Ball at the Capitol Hilton.
Creative Coalition Inaugural Ball at the Harman Center for the Arts.
Recording Industry Association of America’s ball for Feeding America.
BET’s Inaugural Ball at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel.
Africa on the Potomac inaugural celebration at Crystal Gateway Marriott in Arlington, Va.
American Music Inaugural Ball at the Marriott Wardman Park Hotel.
Inaugural Purple Ball at the Fairmont Hotel.
Human Rights Campaign’s Equality Ball at the Renaissance Mayflower Hotel.
Inaugural Peace Ball at the Smithsonian National Postal Museum.
Impact Film Fund ball.

COMMENT: That's a remarkably wild extrapolation to an alleged disregard for the military.

Its pretty obvious where this President's priorities are. Just look at who he did and did not visit on his trip to Iraq and Germany.

He went to 10 "official" inaugural balls. So if he missed one 'unofficial' ball, he's probably missed another 9 unofficial balls.

The story doesn't say anything about a formal invitation, or what happened if one was issued. Hopefully it wasn't too much of a 'dud' in his absence.

Here's a vet who was there and isn't complaining:

The first time in 54 years a president has not attended this ball. Yeah, dissing heroes who have won the Nation's highest honor through unfathomable sacrifice is acceptable to you quack liberals, but unacceptable to those of us who still hold our military heroes in high esteem.

About 2,000 servicemen and women had a chance to celebrate at the Commander in Chief's Ball, one of 10 which the new president attended on Tuesday! Popcorn

Obviously Obama's actions speak much louder than his words. Also his wife comparing her great sacrifice of paying her dues at Harvard Law to the sacrifices of our military speaks volumes on their perspective to our military and veterans.

President and Mrs. Obama attended the Commander in Chiefs Ball. I watched on C-SPAN as they danced with enlisted people -- an Army sergeant (female) and Marine sergeant (male). When was that ever done?

C'mon folks. Be gracious here. How many balls are they supposed to attend on inaugural night? Isn't 10 enough?

He was invited and regretted. He was then sent the following:

quote:
Dear President-Elect Obama:

On Inauguration Night, January 20th, nearly 50 recipients of the Medal of Honor will be gathered together in a Washington hotel banquet room awaiting the high honor of a much-deserved personal greeting from their new Commander-in-Chief.

We have learned, however, that these men, whose courage and dedication to our nation and its freedoms is boundless, may not receive this precious gift. If this is so, it will be the first and only time attendees of our Salute to Heroes will have been so neglected.

The Salute to Heroes is an Inaugural event staged by a coalition of veterans and military service organizations and hosted by The American Legion that dates back to the day General Dwight D. Eisenhower was sworn into office as President of the United States in 1953. The Salute to Heroes has often been the very first stop a new President has made during his festive evening of political fetes and celebrity receptions.

A President’s failure to appear at the Salute to Heroes would be a wounding disappointment not only to the Medal of Honor recipients on whose behalf this event is dedicated, but to every attending veteran and member of the military; each of whom has offered to give his or her life on behalf of our country and its President.

Although we appreciate fully the many political and social obligations that demand your time and attendance on Inauguration Night, we hope sincerely that you, on this signal evening in American history, will spare just a few minutes to honor a band of true and humble heroes. It would reinforce and even amplify the noble work already performed by Mrs. Obama, whose heartfelt interest in and concern for our military families has not gone unnoticed.

The Salute to Heroes venue is in the Renaissance Washington Hotel, located within a few hundred yards of the Walter E. Washington Convention Center, where many, if not most, of the “official” Inaugural events are being held. Therefore, logistics should not pose a problem.

It is with great enthusiasm that we anticipate meeting you Tuesday evening.

<signed by the leadership of the sponsoring MSOs>

Reportedly, though I can't prove it, the American Legion was subsequently informed that the Obama's WOULD attend.

They didn't. VP Joe Biden and his wife Jill did.

The fact that he's left handed is cancelled out by the fact that he's a smoker, which I think is the biggest plus he has going for him.

On a serious note, he really REALLY should have made the Medal of Honor Ball. There are some things you HAVE to make time for.

They could have made a 5 minute stop at this particular ball. No excuse for this snub...no matter how you libs try to justify it. 54
years the President has honored these hereos. You all can't be that enamored of this guy. It's not rational. Cool

Unless they broke free of the evil one & became "righties", sadly they would be in hell! Cool
