I saw that episode. Good episode too. I just wonder how effective a USV could be when it comes to dealing with piracy. For survielance I can see where it can be good. Especially if they can get the boat to blend in the water really good.

I Wish everyone a Merry Christmas out there. Especially those that are placing their lives on the line for the rest of us! May you all return home soon and in one piece and in perfect health. Beer

One of the big problems with piracy off the horn of Africa is the fact that we can't find their "mother ship." I've never operated over there, but people have mentioned in news reports that the small boats they use could not operate that far at sea without assistance and support. I suspect that until we see some such cooperation, we will be unable to effectively fight the threat. That is especially true in areas of the world where the "government" (if the term even applies in Somalia) has not given us permission to patrol their waters.

Piracy off the coast of Somalia is widespread because of the lawlessness in Somalia. There doesn't have to be a "mother ship" so long as they have refueling capabilities.

If there was nothing else to spend money on but right now I want all the Soldiers and Marines to have the MRAPs, body armor, and guns that don't jam. When that's done, we'll fix the AF Airlift and Tanker platforms and the scandal in the Coast Guard.

Spending money on this little beauty at this time is bull and should be shelved.

I don't know much of anything on the subject, so please excuse my ignorance, but it seems that unmanned aerial vehicles would do the same job more effectively.
