I'm currently a sophomore at the University of West Florida and working on my application for a 2year NROTC-marine option scholarship though SDSU...although hopefully i will get accepted to CSU: San Marcos as a transfer and do the cross-town affiliate thing.

anyways, i was wondering if anybody has done this 2 year scholarship through SDSU or just a NROTC-Marine option and has any advice? or background on how it went? or can tell me what the chances are i would get in?

a little background about me:

my father is a retired marine of 24 years. i grew up in okinawa, japan so i've been around all 4 services most of my life. In high school i received varsity letters in crosscountry, basketball, and soccer all 4 years. I was captain of all 3 my senior year, and captain of basketball and soccer my junior year. i had a 3.8+ G.P.A, ranked 12th in a class of just over 200, and scored a 27 cummulative on my ACTs. My current GPA in college is like a 3.4, and my major is mathematics. I'm half filipino and female

Your best bet is to contact the NROTC at SDSU. Call 619.260.4811 and ask to speak to the Assistant Marine Officer Instructor.

like the guy above me said, the best thing you can do is contact them.

Your grades are excellent it seems. Honestly, you being female and ethnic is automactically going to have the recruiters going for you. They barely if ever make quotas for females especially non white ones and thats the truth. It is not racist or profiling, it is what is.

The marine corps is looking for the whole package though. They are going to be looking at your whole academic career and the military background definitely does help. You need to submit your package for scholarship ASAP and start getting in shape if you are not already to be competitive for the scholarship. Shoot for a 250/300 PFT (look up information about and PFT prep/OCS prep workout plans on google). That being said, ROTC is a developmental program and designed to get you to where you need to be physically and mentally.

If you have any questions feel free to PM me
