I am thinking of picking one up for concealed carry. I like the idea of being able to fire the .327 as well as 32 h&r ,32 s&w longs and shorts. Does anyone out there have one and do you like it? looking of plus and minus

Hello PBMKC:--- No I haven't shot one, nor own one, nor have heard anything to directly help you.
The one thing that came to my mind was about the availability of ammo for the weapon if you are someplace other than the store which sold it to you. It is a "new" cartridge and because of shipping (freight) prices some stores are not getting just one box of ammo in, but rather they are waiting until there is a pallet of freight headed toward the town/city/county and then "piggy back". There are many places across the Nation that have some ammo on their shelves. It often times consists of some .22LR, some .38spl., some .45acp., some .30-30Win., some .30-06Sprg, and some 12 gauge. If you are near a big town--no problem, but if you are someplace that has a combination Gas Pump/Post Office/Western Union/Stale Hostess cakes-black as mud 10 hour old coffee pot/with a Pay Phone next to the Toilet door kinda place...chances are, they aren't going to have the .327 Ruger Mag ammo on the metal shelf mounted on the board with the bracket holes, behind the cashier's bar stool *. If yaa know whad I mean...? * Got a place just thataway up here on Richardson Highway between Paxson and Thompson Pass... |

thanks for the advice.. I was thinking that some of the little tows might still carry 32 s& w but your right anything other than 38, 357, 9 and 45 is a crap shoot. How much is a M-94 win going for now that they are no longer manufactured/

Hiya-- I know what you were thinking about ( the other .32 Caliber cartridges), and I only mentioned it because your Bio says you live in Texas. I realize they have some very big cities, but also many "Green Acres" type towns.
{ Reminds me of a sandwich shop next door to a Gas station at Four Corners- (near Boron) ( State Rte. 58 and U.S. 395)... went in there a few years back and in the glass case next to some flashlight bats. and candy bars they had a (1) box of .264 Win Mag ammo...in a box about 20 years old-- ohh, btw--- about the prices of the Model 94's...I think they were about $300.00,,,and just slightly older than the Hostess snack cakes. Sorry for going waaayy off Topic. This message has been edited. Last edited by: swremwin, |

The .327 Mag seems like it's a great little cartrige. I have several .32 cal revolvers and I really like the fact that there is so much flexibility in the types of ammo you can shoot. A .32 H&R mag is a great little "camp gun", you can keep it loaded with tame .32 S&W wadcutters for plinking or general use, then have some hotter JHP's in your pocket if needed. The 327 Mag takes this whole concept one step further. On paper, it seems to be quite a formidable defense round. I'd go for it, and if you are travelling somewhere that you don't think will have it on hand, bring a couple spare boxes of ammo. My Nagant revolver goes on all my camping trips. It will shoot it's proprietary ammo, 7.62 Nagant, as well as 32 long, 32 short and 32 H&R magnum.

"Do it by the numbers." |
Quote = While the .32 H&R Magnum is a near equivalent to the .38 Special +P, the .327 Federal Magnum reaches the velocity levels of the .357 Magnum, if not the same power, with velocities of up to 1400 ft/s (420 m/s) from the short-barreled Ruger SP-101. The case is 1/8" (3 mm) longer than the .32 H&R, and the pressure, at 45,000 psi, exceeds that of the .357 Magnum and approaches the level of the .454 Casull. Since the .327 still shares all case dimensions, excluding length, with the other .32 caliber cartridges going back to the .32 S&W, handguns chambered for it can safely chamber and fire the other three cartridges for lower-recoil practice."
You can google all the articles relating to cmparable ballistics. Rugers .327 is good looking. wikipedia.org/wiki/.327_Federal_Magnum NC1911 !!! |
