Those of you with concealed carry permits, what type of ammo do you carry in your pistol?
I've got two kevlar tips that shred on impact (perfect for breaking glass and not shooting through walls), and the rest of one clip filled with Hollow points. |

"Kevlar bullets" for breaking glass....wha'? No such ammo. Did you mean nylon capped, pre-fragmented bullets, like Mag-Safe?
Use standard commercially available hollow points, the courts will like you better. I use Corbon 168's in all my .45's Oh..it's a "magazine", not a clip. No, the two terms are not interchangeable. Life ain't worth living, if ya ain't got a good cigar. |

Well, I have an IMI Desert Eagle 50 and it fires one hell of a bullet.
The massive .50 Caliber Action Express round does wonders. Tried it out at the range recently. Blew four 5litre bottles filled with water into bits. One downside was I couldn't hold a spoon in my hands for a whole day. That gun may fire a big bullet in it but it sure kicks like a damn mule. |

PMC Starfire 155 grain JHP's for .40 cal or Speer 125 grain GDHP's for .357 Sig, depending on what barrel I'm using for my P229. The PMC's have great performance even through heavy clothing and the gold dot's will also do a number on the car your adversary is driving.

11B NCO Sorry I'm not one of those give a private a hug guys |
230 gr. Speer Gold dots for my 1911 .45's, for my P226 9mm
Simple and short, a magazine feeds and holds the rounds to the weapon (modern day weapons and pistols). A magazine does not have to protrude from the grip to be a mag, most semi-auto pistols will have a magazine that seats into the magazine well and does not protrude. A clip just holds the rounds as the weapon that it feeds will normally have a internal magazine (i.e. M1 Garand, 1903, etc.). This message has been edited. Last edited by: StrykerSol21, |

A magazine charger, more commonly called a clip, or stripper clip, simply holds ammo in the ready to be inserted into a magazine, whether it be internal or an external (removable).
Loaded clip: Internal magazine being loaded by clip: Clip removed prior to firing: Yes, even big guns use clips for their magazines. Notice the loaders reaching for clips sent up from the ships storage (also called a magazine, but for a different reason) : Removable magazines can also be filled by a clip/charger. The device at the top left is an adapter for M16 magazines, allowing the clip (below) to be emptied into the magazine: All above are clips. This, is a magazine: Now, go forth and use this information wisely Life ain't worth living, if ya ain't got a good cigar. |

It’s fun to read about this and play with the numbers, but don’t get too wrapped up in it. The most important part of a gunfight - for civilians - is to be alert enough to see it coming and be somewhere else when it does.
Ten years ago, picking the right ammo was a serious problem. Not now. There’s been an enormous amount of advancement in bullet design and performance. For instance, 147 gr 9mm ammo used to be only marginally effective and failed to function in some guns. That’s all changed. If you buy any of the current premium JHP ammo for any of the serious calibers, you’ll be OK as long as it functions 100% in your gun and shoots to your preferred point of impact. For a serious self defense gun, especially if you’re going to be carrying it, you’ll want a gun that you can shoot really well and can carry all the time without problems. For a lot of us, that’s a 9mm. Also, ammo is available everywhere and practice ammo is reasonably cheap. Cor Bon, Gold Dots, XTP, TAP or whatever will do fine. The major ammo companies have done their research and nobody you shoot will ever be able to tell the difference. Personally, I carry 115 gr Federal 9PBLE in my Glock 19. It has a long-standing reputation for excellent performance; it runs 100% and shoots right on the sights. Ammoman.com often has it on sale. John Cape Canaveral |

I use what the city, county, state, and feds use; it's been R&Dd and T&Dd to death, meets/exceeds specs at a good price and is the "best value" at the time of the contract (low bidder only went out yrs ago).
Gives me a wide choice of ammo from Federal, Remington, Speer, and Winchester. |

I carry the JHP issued by my department. This image is not specific to my ammo, but it gives you an idea of why I like the hollow point. Imagine the damage one of these will do when they are spinning through you. They are designed for stopping a threat. We use ball ammo for practice because it's cheaper. But for duty carry and off-duty carry, we use the hollow points. We issue Winchester. Very reliable. Just make sure to check with local laws to be sure that what you carry is legal. |
