"American SIG" is all it is.

Get a 1911: parts everywhere, easy to work on, accurate, easy to shoot, easy to pack, throws a good sized chunk of damage laden projectile.

Went to a gun range. Fired a Glock 21 .45 ACP,
Springfield M1911 GI .45, And Springfield .40 XD. I liked the Glock and was accurate with it. Until I switched to the 1911 loved it, But I dont know if i should get the Hi capacity or just the reg. GI. Any reccomendations on ammo? Thanks

Here in California, we are still saddled with the damn 10 round limit, so I run with Chip McCormick Shooting Star 10 round mag. If magazine capacity is not a problem, go with the Para Ordnance model that fills the bill. For big bucks for extreme quality, the STI series of 1911's cannot be beat.

For good quality at a good price, the Springfield line is top choice, though you are limited in mag size.

I use Cor-Bon ammo in my house guns and handload for the range and competition, but any quality ammo will run in any quality 1911. WalMart has super cheap Winchester "white box" in 100 round packs.

I really like my Springfield 9mm XD. I have a magazine that gives me more rounds now, from 10 to 14. The Springfield 1911 is a helluva weapon. My choice for .45cal. Even the XD i would buy it. Can't go wrong with the makers of the best combat rifle ever made--M-14

The Springfield Armory was a US Government owned and operated entity.

Springfield Armory of today, is a corporate business that has no ties or affilation to the former armory other than the licensed name.

Today's SA did not design nor make the M14. They do make the M1A semi-auto version of the M14.

Hey Stars, I just got a H&K USP .45 best gun I handled in the shop. (They didnt have a Mark 23) I liked the feel of the gun and loved it even more when I fired it, low recoil. Great gun and very simple to take apart and clean. Has 2 12 rd mags and a tactical rail. Only fired 50 rds through it first time but had fun. Thanks for the suggestions.

in my opinion, SPRINGFIELD makes some of the best firearms in the world. if you got that 1911, unless ur goin' to combat, i would get the reg. for a special occasion, break out a box of HI-CAP. good choice, SPRINGFIELD IS #1 to me. i have a 9mm sub-compact, w/the mag extension, now i got 16 rounds. i got a .40 tactical, and its a dream. 1 day ill have the SOCOMll. nice addition to my Rock River Elite CAR A4. Smile

No experience with the .45 XDs but I have plenty with the 9MMs...

My XD9 (sub compact) has over 1500 rounds through it and not a single jam/misfire! I love it...

Several of my friends own XDs and they haven't had any problems either.

I can't see any reason that the .45 models would be any different.

I love that 6.26inch piece of steel. it holds lotsa rounds, it came w/extras in the carrying case. never jammed, even when i fired 4 mags in a row. the tactical is the same qaulity, when i fire, its heavy enough where the next 4 or 5 are grouped pretty good. SPRINGFIELD #1

I fired the XD .40, Glock 21 .45, Bersa .380 and Springfield GI .45 in one day at the range. I was very accurate with the Glock it felt natural, and only 1 rd. was outside body target all were on paper my first time shooting .45 and 2nd time shooting handgun. The XD was ok it didnt feel that great but it was a nice gun. Bersa felt like a water pistol but it was fun shooting after .45. Shot GI .45 just trying out rapid fire and got all head shots was very suprised after my 2nd time shooting. Ended up buying HK USP .45 Great gun very light good quality and simple. Routine cleaning only 3 parts come off the gun, further than that needs an HK gunsmith. Kept loaded with Remington 185 gr. hollowpoint.

happy to see SPRINGFIELD get so much attention.
the .45 they are putting out comes with hardwood on the handle with a U.S. engraved on it. some come in different sizes, and metals. steel blue, black, stainless steel. the only other pistol i would buy is H&K, GLOCK, SIG. I DON'T know much about KAHR, or TAURUS. i did hear TAURUS had a problem with jamming when you fired a couple mags in a row. someone enlighten me?

"American SIG?"

Is that a complement or an insult? What do you mean by that? It seems more like an american Glock to me... Could you elaborate please?

I believe what he's talking about is that Sig is considered the Mercedes-Benz (if I'm not mistaken) of the gun world.

Take it either way. SiG's..and Glocks for that matter...have zero capacity to customize to the user.

I prefer guns that can be tailored for better handling and accuracy.

I'm not sure what is meant by "American Sig" but, Sig is now building a 1911 in the US.

I'm getting a kick from the people crowing about what a great, American made pistol the Springfield XD is, the gun is made in Croatia. It says so, right on the gun. I'm not denigrating the gun, but it's NOT American made.It makes me wonder if they've even handled one.

I take it you mean guns like the ubiquitous John Browning classic, the 1911.For the price, this weapon does its job well.It will never win a beauty contest nor will it place all of its bullets through one hole on the target but, in the hands of a competent shooter, it will reliably place bullets within a 3"-5" kill zone at 25 yds on a human sized target.
